Anyone have any first hand recommendations of a good moose outfitter for the Alaska/BC area for fall 2012? Particularly one that can accomodate a nonhunting female and provide black bear combo opportunity with the moose.

I have not hunted with this guy, but I have fished with him. He's top notch. You fly to Anchorage, then west over the mountains to a gravel runway at Red Devil, AK. Then Rocky picks you up and you fly a bush plane abouts 20 minutes to his place. I was there in July, 2006, and I saw lots of moose along the Holitna River. The website has 95% of the info you need. This is about 250 miles west of Anchorage....off the beaten path. Good accomodations for females as well. When I was there, his wife and 3 daughters worked there also.

Was in the process of looking into this outfit when I got a cancellation hunt elsewhere for carribou that I couldn't turn down.

I had another person from Oregon recommend Moose Lake Lodge which is somehow connected. Its a link at the bottom of Fawniemountain page. Do you know the dynamics of the two? Is this one you found that you thought looked good or do you have first or second hand knowledge? Really nice looking place.

I believe they are one and the same. Moose Lake Lodge is where John Blackwell (owner?) lives. The name of his outfit is Fawnie Mtn. Fellow SCI members from our chapter hunted with them and had lots of good things to say about it. On their recommendation, I made some contacts with them and started to check it out. They must have been reviewing their contacts over the last year, and I received an e-mail from them a few weeks ago, just a little marketing memo with a couple of pics. If you would like to PM me with your e-mail, I would be glad to forward it to you.

I have collaborated with Fawnie Mountain Outfitters yesterday and today and am liking what I hear. I was recommended to them by two people and so inquired. I am open to any other pro's/cons or suggestions though. If your buddie's fellow guide has any input, please let me know. I will PM you my email. Thanks!
