hello

i have a new (to me) 2001 180BR that i have been traiering and was considering mooring next season. im concerned about the carpet as most boats seem to just be left out on moorings uncovered. how do i keep the deck and stringers from rotting out if rain and moist air is constantly soaked up by the carpet. most boats out there must be gel coated decks to sit on a mooring without this concern. any advice?

thanks
jason

yeah that makes sense. i saw in the specs for this boat that...
Floor/Stringer System, Integral Fiberglass

does this mean i don't have a concern here. im surprised that this is a wood free deck as ive seen newer sea rays with wood rot online.

Floor and stringer system have no wood. Some of the trim pieces could have a plywood backer. There is plywood inside the ski locker lid.

Newer Sea Rays have even less wood - pretty much non-existant. What you've seen could be a mistake. Sea Ray started using a fiberglass floor/stringer system in their sport boats around the mid-90's.

You can buy bow/cockpit covers (or have them made) and they are very easy to put on while on the mooring.

A full mooring cover gets a little harder, so make sure you get one that is easy to put on from your skiff while the boat is in the water. One with a ratchet strap in the hem would be good. You'd also want to have cutouts for your cleats. If you do some searching for the newer Sea Ray sport boats and their mooring cover, you'll see an example.
