The admiral and I are looking into a trip to Monterey this fall when the Indian Summer weather is here and the water is generally nice and calm. Is anyone from the Bay Area up to a trip? It would be nice to do this in a small group and would be pretty sweet.

I have started looking into the harbors down that way for guest docks and access. Not bad so far.

I have a conference in Monterey the first week of October. Planning to haul the boat down an cruise the bay the Oct 1-3 and 8-10. Would be good to hook up.

btw - like the pic of your admiral, she is obviously very safety-concious to wear her personal floation devices in an indoor areana...

We are definitely up for the trip. We have been to Santa Cruz (I grew up in Sant Cruz), Moss Landing and Monterey with our Sea Ray. Let's figure out some dates and set it up.

Absolutely, I just think October is the calmest, best weather month to brave the Pacific. This may take a couple of beverages at one of the many fantastic local establishments around SF to start a game plan...

Traveling there in groups is always good. You never know when an engine or something goes haywire!

Yep, fall is definitely the time. I always have several beer's in the fridge ready to go. Let's figure out some dates and a plan. You want to hit Santa Cruz and Monterey? What about a night in Half Moon Bay/Pillar Point? Any thoughts on a night at anchor in Stillwater cove? (Just around the corner from Monterey, by Carmel) Great beach to dinghy up to and build a fire/play a hole or two on the golf course. Used to do this a kid, some people call it trespassing.

We might be up for this as well. It will all depend on timing, work, etc. You know....all that other crap that gets in the way of a good time.

Early planning was including a Half Moon Bay stop either overnight or for lunch and Santa Cruz was the next stop overnight for sure. Stillwater Cove would be pretty sweet and how can playing a few holes be trespassing?

I say lunch in HMB, and head to SC for a night or two, but I'm open to anything as far as the schedule goes. 25 years ago when we would be in stillwater, it was a challenge to play without "checking in" so to speak.

I agree, lunch in HMB followed by 1 or 2 nights in Santa Cruz/Capitola (check out Zelda's for night life) then down to Monterey. I was thinking maybe even a night in Santa Cruz on the return trip would make the return cruise a bit shorter. I'm sure I could get some people to drive down and drive us to a golf course too if need be. Damn clubs do take up a lot of room on my boat at least.

Let's try and come up with some dates for this trip. My schedule is very flexible.

Ok, so I am planning to go (pending weather of course) Oct 7 and return on or abouthe 11th. Any interest??

We were planning a Bay trip about that time so we might be interested. I am going to look at the charts and calculate fuel use and cost plus refuel spots. Our boat only holds 172 gallons. Not much for 2 thirsty 454s.

There are a couple of options:

24 nm south of SF is Pillar Point (Half Moon Bay), very easy to get fuel/food whatever else is needed, also good for an overnight.

Santa Cruz is approx 50 nm south of Pillar Point, worth at least one night

Monterey is 22 nm from Santa Cruz.

It's a great trip if the weather cooperates.

But I would be coming from the Delta and It's about 3 1/2 hours fro my slip to Sausalito. At 30 gallons per that is more than half of my capacity if the water is relatively smooth. I can do better if the tide is going out when I head west.I would just need to refill in the Bay before heading out the Gate.

I may need to come over the day before departure to leave in the morning.

I would agree, fill up before going out the gate. I never leave the bay unless my tanks are full just to be safe. Gas House cove is the closest to the Golden Gate, has gas. You could easily get a slip for a night in Sausilito at Paradise Cay (where my boat is berthed), or several others that around the area. There is also gas in Sausilito, but tends to be pricey. I usually fuel over at fisherman's wharf, right by Gas House, but they only have diesel.

We will know what the deal is by next week. I would love to go but the weather MUST be perfect before I point my bow out of the gate! I am checking with another half dozen or so Sea Rays that may head down there. I will report back the first of next week.

Well, we are scheduled for the trip! We head to SF Bay on October 2nd for a week with the Sea Ray Club then 9 boats are taking the Bluewater trip to Santa Cruz & Monterey on Sunday October 11th.

We stay at the marina next to AT&T Park for 7 days and will work in the city that week. We stay the last night in Sausalito so we are close to the Golden Gate and head out until the following Saturday!

I need to buy a new camera since ours was stolen with everything else but I plan on upgrading. 9 Sea Rays heading on a nice trip should make for some great photo ops.

I did ask if I could invite anyone and was told I am the last since they only wanted 6 to begin with...

Good for you, I made our slip reservations today, heading down on the 7th and returning on the 10th
