OK as I am moving to the PacNW it rains a lot there. I noticed a boat at a dealer in which he left the cabin door open wide open. The boat was under cover.

This got me thinking about mold. I had to remove all the monkey carpet (liner) because of mold when the boat was in Florida.

For those that face this issue, how do you prevent mold forming in your cabin or other areas? What do the guys in the PacNW deal with this issue?

Tom, We have afew boaters at the marina that swear by hanging socks filled with hunks coal also works..

Mine's kept inside when not in use, but the dehumidifier's have worked well in the past along with "Dri-Z-Air" tubs.

Tom, when I had my 1988 300 Weekender I set up a painters light (75W bulb, reflector and spring loaded mounting clamp) in the cabin whenever she was not underway. That single lamp kept the cabin dry, you may need two for a bridge boat. Long Island gets pretty humid in the summer and I never had a mold issue in 20 plus years of using the boat.

I keep a 40 pint electric dehumidifier plugged in all winter here in the Seattle area. It sets on the counter and has a hose that empties into the galley sink. With this unit and its air flow I don't get midew/mold or any bad odors.

Take a small clay pot, add a basic incandescent lamp base in the bottom with a 60 watt lamp facing into the pot. Turn it over into a clay pot base and it will keep the moisture down wonderfully!

That guy talks like we're all RETARDED at boating . :smt021
I hate that show . :smt013
