My 1985 390 Sportfish has a bit of what appears to be mold (black spots) on the foam mattres not to mentoin a funkey smell. Is there a cleaning process I could go through, or is it time to purchace a new one?

This worked for me!

Well if anyone else has this problem this is what worked for me. I took a solution of mostly water and a little bleach/upolstry cleaner in a bucket and doused the mattress down with several buckets full of the solution. Then I flushed the mattress with tap water for several minutes. Afterward, a friend and I put it over a smooth PVC fence to dry for a few days. No more mold/mildew or smell.

Matress Cleaning

Glad to hear you got it worked out! A 5-10% bleach solution in water is good for cleaning mildew from almost any surface on a boat and might would probably have done it, but adding the upholstery cleaner was a good idea! Good Information for the Future!

Did you douse the the cushions with the foam pad inside? I have the same issue with my mid-berth cushions and I'm thinking of trying this but I'm not sure if I should remove the foam pad (they're zippered).

Thanks

You deffinitly want to remove the coutions because it is a very wet job. I did this on my concrete drive way. Also, you want to rince out the solution several times. then you must squeeze the majority of the water out, then let it air dry several days keeping it out of the rain.
