Bought one of these Saterday and changed my oil. It worked great. They include an adaptor that screws onto the end of Merc dipstick tubes. 12-15 pumps and it sucked oil until it was full. Emptyed it and reconnected the hose, another 10 pumps brought maybe a half quart of oil out and the engine was empty. It worked great and was easy to use. Now if I could just find a way to get the oil filter out with out spilling oil.

Shilo,

Just picked one of those up myself a couple of weeks ago.
Not only works great on the boat but I have found myself using on my wifes Toyota, and our garden tractor.
Also using it to suck out the aggravating amount of water that seems to mysteriously show up in the bilge.
Two thumbs up on the Moeller!

I guess that extractor has many different names. I have always referred to it as on Oil Boy. Mine works great as well and I highly recommend it. By the way, with the right adapter you can also use it to bleed the brakes on your car or trailer too.

If your oil filter is like mine upside down on top of your engine you can punch a small hole in the top with an awl or screw driver to release the vacuum and it should drain down into the oil pan. Just make sure you do not tear a piece of the filter case off.

I did mine just about a week ago.

I warmmed the engine up to opertating temp, about 160-170 degrees. then Shut it down and grab a hammer and a phillips head screw driver and punch a hole in the oil fillter, to break the vaccum.

then hock up the pump and start sucking. Once it was full dump the oil into my hold container and go back to finish sucking out what was left.

once I was done draining the oil i changed the oil filter and put the new one on. then refill the oil. easy.

My oil filter is down under on the side of the engine. Very little space. Have a hard enough time getting my arms down there to reach it let alone bring a filter full of oil up out of there. I put a bunch of paper towels down first. Any better way?

No tips on making it easier but you may want to consider adding a remote oil filter setup to make it easier in the future.
