Have any of you attended any of the MM sponsored Getaways? Specifically looking for feedback on the Lake Erie/St. Clair/Lake Michigan trips?? If so, what are the plusses and (if any) minuses. Do you see kids on these trips? etc. Just wondering if they are worth attending.

Was it '07 that was rained-out? I think they were supposed to gather in the north bay of Kelley's?

We considered going, but after some frustration with the local reps, scheduling conflicts and bad weather, decided against it.

Roller,

I think you may be talking about last years Aquapalooza event as Buckeyeboater told me the same thing regarding that gathering.

The Getaways are supposedly organized trips where a group of boaters depart to various destinations for either a weekend or an extended trip. MM organizes them as I understand it. This is basically all I know about them and was wondering if anyone had done one of them etc.

Been on a couple of them but, not in your area. We had a great time. Some of them have had kids some of them have not. Need to check with your local person to see which get-aways have kids and which don't.

Randy, you're right. It was Aquapalooza.

(it's well into cocktail hour here...)

They've had getaways to local places like Leamington, and I've heard they were fun, and in '06 I think they went to the North Channel.

Randy try Skipperbuds, they always have great getaways for the whole family, we are going on several on the Lkae Michigan side, but I also know there are some Skipperbuds in Saginaw and near Detroit.... give them a call, you'll like what they do..

I put together a trip up to Lake Michigan this coming July. I've invited about 9 other boats, but of course, when it came time to lay down some plastic and make harbor reservations, only 1 other boat committed, another is going but on a different itinerary. A few others are hesitating, and the rest ran.

wimps! :)

We might have some kids around, ranging from 5-15 yrs old. (they're in the non-committed group though)

Yes when I planned our Elk Rapids getaway , many people didn't show, but I'm sure it was because of feul prices....and on a second note we still had a great time in Elk Rapids...

Where are you going in Lake Michigan? Where does your getaway begin and end, I'd like to know?

At this point, fuel prices are a pretty legit excuse... We might scale back too.

If we can swing it though, the trip will take us from Cedar Point OH up to Lake St. Clair, then up the Ont shore of Huron. Bayfield, then Tobermory. Then we'll track across the lake to Michigan, go up to Mackinac Island, then through the straights and over to Bay Harbor, Charlevoix, Leland, back up to St Ignace, then down Michigan to Tawas, back to St Clair and eventually back to Cedar Point.

RollerCoastr,

Not sure exactly when in July you're excursion is planned for, but there may be some Great Lakes folks that can meet up for various portions.

I know I'd be interested in the Lake St. Clair/St.Clair River leg. I've been thinking about a weekend in St. Clair, so this may work out well.

Why not trying to set up an itinerary like many did for BIH (east coast) and the San Juans (west Coast), and invite CSR members along?

Gregg

Well, I haven't had great success in getting my good friends to come along, so I guess it hadn't occurred to me to go even bigger...!

I'd be up for it though.

I'd be up for a portion of the trip!

I think Huron and Michigan would be too big for me at this time.

Why don't you start the thread and see what happens?

Gregg

Randy try Skipperbuds, they always have great getaways for the whole family...

This is my third year docking at the Skipper Buds on Marblehead (Lake Erie) and to my knowledge they have not organized any trips...at least out of our marina. Maybe the do something for the Four Winns, or Silverton, or Azimut folks directly - but nothing for the general populace....

We're definitely planning on a larger trip this summer but I can never commit until usually a few weeks beforehand. We're debating between heading east to the Erie Canal - or north to Huron and much the same route as mentioned.

FWIW, about 4 or 5 boats from my Marina make a run to Georgian Bay every summer. They basically speak of it as a religious experience for boaters. I believe last year they extended it to 10 days.

I'm hoping with the newly added SeaLift & deluxe tender to accompany them this year...it'd be a dream to anchor off in the clear water and dinghy around to the sights.

MM Minneapolis (?) is having their Apostle Islands Getaway again this year at Pike's Bay Marina in Bayfield. This will be the last week of August and we had a great time last year.

RollerCoastr,

When it gets close to the time that you'll be cruising through, send me a PM, and we'll join up.

Gregg

Also, in July over the 4th there is a Skipperbuds party going to the North Channel. We'll be there already pariusing the North Channel for our vacation....for 2 weeks. Maybe we'll see you there sometime..Aye?

FYI Guys,

Here's the MM (Catawba) Getaways Schedule from a brochure I got at the Cleve Boat show:

CiC June 6-8
Algonac Jun 13-15
PIB Jun 27-29
Thousand Islands Jul 11-26
Rattlesnake Island Jul 23-24
Sea Ray Rendezvous (Kelleys Island) Jul 30-Aug 3
Door County (Wisc) Aug 6-16
Rattlesnake Aug 20-21

Also, the brochure says Aquapalozza is scheduled for Kelleys Cove July 26.

Never been on one, not advertising, just thought you might be intereted.
