I was in the middle of changing my oil on my Mercury 115hp 4-stroke outboard and spilled some. I now am short of oil and the dealership is closed. Can I put in a couple of quarts of another brand since that is all I can find on a Sunday? I am using non-synthetic and it will be the same weight. Thanks for any assistance.

No. Additive packages may not be compatible.

Best regards,
Frank

BS...oil is oil. Especially if if its non-synthetic.

I have two degrees in mechanical engineering and this nonsense that REGULAR oil (non-synthetic type) varies THAT much from manufactuer to manufactuer is nothing more then some marketing guy's wish. The salient properties of oil are just too common and typical. Absent some 'speical additives' (more mumbo-jumbo from advertising experts), OIL is OIL. Keep the viscosity the same and you should have no problems mixing brands. My two cents Even Arnold Palmer and his love for Pennzoil would agree!
