Since there is no EPA mileage requirement for this truck what kind of mileage does a Ford 250 Heavy Duty Powerstroke 6.7L Turbo Diesel truck get? I am looking at used 250 with this engine versus a new F150 with the turbo six. Any of you guys have the 6.7 turbo diesel engine in your truck?

Lots of info. on this engine here. http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/
Scroll down a bit and you will find a discussion about mileage. What they are reporting is about what the Ford dealer told me a couple of days ago.
A little disappointing when you compare it to the 7.3.

Doug,
Thnaks for the link and you are correct that the mileage is disappointing for a diesel. I think I will just consider the gas engines for Ford.

I hate to rain on the parade of the 7.3 fans here but until you tow big loads with it compared to the newer 6.7 I can promise you there is a replacement for displacement. It's called technology. I'm not getting into the whole reliability issues but I've towed my current boat with a f250/350's in a 7.3, 6.0, 6.4 and the 6.7. Everyone one of them. The 6.7 is hands down the most competent of all of them particularly going up grades. It simply doesn't even slow down or need to rev up. Granted the new of the truck probably contributes to the overall better feel but I'm telling you the 7.3 simply seemed to struggle with my load going up grades. Plus, everything but the 6.7 and 6.4 was flat out annoyingly noisy. FWIW, I only noticed a little difference between the 6.4 and 6.7 and wouldn't hesitate to own one of those except that they were not in production very long.

But I was surprised to see around 9-10 mpg with my load. I would have love to have seen at least 13 or so.

For what it's worth, I tow with a 2008 F250 (6.4L PS) and see about 8-9 MPG depending on terrain and traffic. Severe grades and stoplights significantly affect that number in a bad way. On the other hand, interstate and open road towing help it creep up toward 10 MPG.

My tow weight is just under 12.5K lbs.

When not towing, I see about 11-13 MPG in congested city driving and closer to 14.5 or more in true highway driving.

That said, I wouldn't attempt to tow this weight with anything but a diesel power plant.

Hope this helps...

The F250 with the 6.7 Powerstroke diesel I drove was impressive for it's power but the truck was simply too big. I ended up buying a F150 Lariat Supercrew with the the Ecoboost 3.5L engine which has 365 HP and 420 ft. lbs of torque. The maximum towing capacity is 8,200 lbs which should be more than enough to tow my 267 (5,300 dry weight) if I ever decide to do so. The EPA rating is 15 city and 21 highway which I think is better than what I have read elsewhere for the 6.7 diesel.
