I have a 340 Sundancer that has fabric on both sides of the center-line bed. A slight amount of mildew is appearing on the fabric. Any suggestions on how to remove the mildew and treat the fabric with damaging it?[/b]

The mildew is difficult to clean from the fabric mainly b/c the solutions that work best on mildew contain bleach and you certainly do not want to bleach the material. What I did recently was removed the fabric (it should have a zipper along the side) and had them dry-cleaned. The inner foam on mine had mildew which is not healthy especially with little ones. So I purchased new foam and put the dry-cleaned covers back on and it looks great. Good luck.

I had significant mildew problems on my former boat. I discussed this matter with my dry-cleaner. He suggested using a mixture of one capfull of clorex to 20 oz. of cold water. Use this mixture in a spray bottle and spray a light mist on the mildewed area, without saturating the fabric. Let dry and re-mist. Continue this procedure until all the mildew is gone. It can take up to 15 applications to remove all the mildew. Since the mixture is weak, it will not bleach-out the fabric;however, it takes several applications. Be patient in the process. I have used this process and it works! WARNING!! wear old clothes when applying; and try in a non-conspicuous area first. Lots of luck!

I never had mildew problems, but I find taking snuggles dryer sheets and laying them on the cushions and in the lockers helps prevent odors and moisture. I change them every time I use my boat (they are pretty cheap), and it also keeps the cabin smelling clean.

I found some mildew remover at the boat store once, that contained no bleach. I do not remember the name, but I can tell you it was in a clear spray bottle and the liquid was green. I used it on my 340 canvas. It not only worked great, it did not discolor the fabric.

Yacht Bright Mildew Remover (MOLDAWAY). Fine powder that you mix with warm water. No Bleach!
