Paid a mid winter visit to the boat, first time since I put it away in November. Replaced the damp rid containers - too cold to get into any spring waxing yet. Six more weeks or so - we usually get started in March.

Overall just a depressing scene.

I was up a couple days ago to check on things for the first time in several weeks as we’re getting a cold snap here this week. Was 11* overnight and in the teens a couple more nights this week.

Going to have to head back up, power is off on the boat, not sure why.

This cold sucks!

Creek just froze over, temp is in the teens for the first time so far, 3" of snow yesterday. Not mid winter here yet. I'll wait to see what the rest of Jan brings and call mid winter early Feb. So far THIS SUCKS!!!

How you doin? ...

My midwinter checkup was walking out to my barn. Then I had a “ready” buyer want to come see my old boat so I drug them both out and had to show one 10 days ago. Unfortunately I didn’t sell it but I did get to make sure everything is still all secure in both. Took the kids to the Chicago boat show this past weekend and now I’m ready for spring.

We're in heated storage, so lots of polishing and waxing on the hullsides. Port side is done, Starboard side is just about ready for wax. Also got a couple of new MFDs installed and networked, so plenty of time spent under the helm in uncomfortable positions. We ordered and received a 3' swim platform extension this winter as well, so that will get mocked up and mounted once boats start moving out of the warehouse in April.

We're in North Vancouver and the boat stays in the water year-round. The last couple of days it's been so cold that the water in the marina has frozen over (which is fairly rare). Our slip is pretty far out, so only minimal ice floating around - but it does look odd! The picture below was from Monday, today it's been snowing like crazy (also rare around these parts). What's all this talk about global warming?!?

That's why they changed it to "climate change". That way they get funded and get to spread climate panic if it is hot, cold, wet or dry.

I thought winter on Lake Norman started December 1st and ended January 15th. I guess I need to move farther south than that.

But @Pirate Lady said it doesn't snow there....

Haha - not too far off. It does get below freezing enough that you need to winterize or use a heater if you are in the water. I am in dry storage with no heat, I just winterize and forget about the lake Dec - Mar.

How outstanding would it be if the ice were to form just thick enough that you could walk on it? I'd be out there waxing the hull sides in a heartbeat!

I still manage to get to the boat at least once a week. Sometimes it's for a few hours of "work" and others it's just for a couple to minutes to check on things. Boat is now snow free and awaiting the next bit of snow forecasted to come on Friday.

Up in western NY, boats go into storage and for the most part are forgotten about until April except for cruise planning for the next summer. Right about now there’s probably 6’ of snow in front of the doors on the storage buildings. Our storage facility doesn’t make any effort to clear snow unless they need to get into a building for some reason. Fine with me.

you guys are getting crushed again I see. Rochester is cold (single digits overnight), but barely a dusting on the grass.

very little ice on the lake though, which is nice this time of year.

Yep, but you guys doesnt include me Personally. We’re in SW Florida. :). Well, I guess it does effect me a little, got a group text from our hoa saying they‘re bringing in heavy equipment to dig and haul snow out of the development. Another friggin assessment.
Drove to a friends house in Cape Coral for the Bills game Monday and got about 9” of rain at his house In the 4 or 5 hours we were there. Very localized, reminded me of Lake effect back home the way it streamed in off of the gulf. Been a wet winter so far in Florida.

You guys make me feel like I've got it good. First weekend, this last weekend, of a tiny bit of snow with grapple on that then 1/2" of freezing rain. I tarp the boat in the driveway due to all the rain. We only see a few snow events a year, at best. Sometimes a few days and sometimes for a few weeks.

My slip neighbour sent me this. On a positive note the ice is gone.
