Mid-60s Sea Ray 700
Engines
No motor
I just recently purchased a house as part of an estate sale and was thrilled/dismayed when I found a Sea Ray 700 in my new garage. The windows were blocked and the doors locked on the garage so it was quite a shock.

Now here's the dilemma. I live near"ish" the water and would love to have a boat, but frankly, I'm a car guy. I restore old VWs and really need the garage space for those projects. I'm a younger guy and don't have the time or money to really restore the boat properly. However because I AM in the auto restoration hobby I know what a worthy project can become in the right hands.

So here are some photos of the boat as it sits now. I used some rubbing compound on the port bow as you can see the bright white area there, and it shined up very nicely. Little bit of elbow grease and the hull would be ready to go. Mechanically it seems like everything is there. Throttle, steering, etc all seem to work based on my knowledge. Electrical is an unknown, but all the wiring is there that I can see. The interior is just flat out missing. No seats, nothing. Structurally everything seems sorted. No holes, cracks, or weak spots.

What would be the value of something like this? It's a gorgeous classic boat with lovely lines, but obviously not in great condition by any stretch of the imagination.

I'd love to refinish the boat myself and I know I could do a bang-up job on it, but I frankly don't have the time, money, or energy for another project. Let alone the space...

My opinion, it IS a gorgeous classic but its just the shell. That would take a lot of money to restore -- new engine, drive, electical, seating, etc. It's probably not worth much the way it is right now. In the right hands that can be an amazing restoration.

EDIT: I didn't notice at first that it's an outboard. Nonetheless, there is a lot of time and money required.

I would use it as a planter box in the front yard.....Throw a spot light on it and change the plants out with each season....Post a picture for the 4th of July...

My thoughts exactly, I posted it up on the local Craigslist and I already have someone coming to pick it up. It's going to kill me in a few years when I do have time for a boat, but priorities are priorities and unfortunately this one just ranks too low at the moment.

Nice find!

Congrats on the house and welcome to the site.

I am half tempted to make you an offer to take it off your hands so you can better care for those nice Ronal R10 Turbos and car and bike and......

But I can't finish the projects I have now.

Anyway, go here for details on the boat-

Good problem to have.

I wish I had the space.. what a cool restron that would be... but a nice 70 or 90 hp on the back.. wow it would fly !!!

Thanks for the info... seeing one in new condition makes me kick myself a little harder for not having the funds to give this one what it deserves, but that's life.

Good eye on the Ronals ;) As you noted, there is the car, the bike, the house itself.... and the list goes on.

I'll be back in a few years when I have some scratch to burn on the water :)

I was thinking about sending you a PM about this or suggesting the owner sending you one. Consider it my fault! :smt021
