My '04 280 is equipped with a Raymarine 215 VHF radio. This unit has a seperate microphone and cradle that is mounted below and left of the steering wheel. My cradle is broken and I have tried several times to repair it but it never lasts. Raymarine has discontinued this item and I cannot find a replacement anywhere. Has this happened to anyone else and are there any unique ideas to correct this problem? Basically I have been wrapping the cord around the steering wheel and I need a better solution.
Thanks, KV

No Stock in this case does mean discontinued. I have contacted Raymarine and they have been little help.

Damn... I got excited when i saw this thread. The cradle broke on mine as well and have been looking for a replacement for some time now. No luck :-(

Tippy Canoe - if you find anything please report back!

Mine is broken also but I don't think its a ray marine 215. I think these universal cell phone clips would work. The round button shown in this picture on the lowere right screwed directly to the dash.

You don't think their new mic hanger witll work with the old mic?

Welcome to the club.

Someone else took the mount clip off and just used Velcro. I did this last weekend and it works great.

I figured they would discontinue them soon enough. Last time mine broke, I made sure the cost of parts equalled the shipping costs. I now have 4 spares  I seem to catch them at least twice per season on my britches.

Thanks for all the replies. So far I like the velcro idea. The location of the cradle makes it very vulnerable but from a safety perspective it is also easily accessable so I can see why Sea Ray placed it there. If only the darn thing were a little more rugged. I think that mine now has more super glue content than plastic.

how does the velcro hold up in the heat when covered?

Buy the industrial grade Velcro. Mine seems fine...but it hasn't exactly been hot here in the Notheast yet. I like it better with the Velcro, as it sits on the dash lower and doesn't really get in the way as much.

Great idea... I am going to try the velcro idea and see how it works out. Thanks for the tip!

I hate that stupid Raymarine microphone and its holder.

In order to pick the mic out of the cradle, it is absolutely necessary to either:
  • key the mic
  • change the channel
  • or drop the mic on the floor.
The holder has a fairly tight "grip", and there is a button on the microphone everywhere you can grab it. :smt013
I may just take my unbroken holder off and try the velcro.

The microphone doesnt have a button on the back. That would just make it to easy.... It is smooth and drops into a molded plastic mount.

Bought mine at our local MarineMax location, it was a in stock item when mine finally broke on my last boat. If you have a MarineMax in your area they had quite a few locally in inventory not long ago.
