FYI:
This years Sea Ray Miami Aquapalooza Party will be at Beer Can Island (Haulover Inlet area). Will anybody else be there?

id love to go but too far for me.. .. if i had a bigger boat id love to cruise down.. but for now i woule have to trailor it and put it in the water.. its kinda far.. i dont mind boating there is i had a big enough boat to handle it.. but driving.. im not gonna be there.. have fun!
 
I'm registered, but I thought Beer Can Island was in front of the Miami Marina in front of the Marriott hotel.......Oh boy, I guess I should change Marina plans for that weekend....
 
Sorry we were away in Ft Myers beach, that place is Fla's best kept secret....until now:)
Eddie, It is by Haulover Inlet unless I have been calling the wrong island Beer Can. I confirmed the location with MM and they said it was in fact by Haulover, you've got me thinking now, I will call tomorrow to confirm or Google the darn place. Anyway ,we will be there,see you there.
 
I'd love to be able to attend however that is not possible as my boat is at the boat yard being repaired. I was in an auto accident and airlifted to trauma center in Miami. My truck is totaled, however my boat looked as if it's totaled and my insurance company wants to try to fix it. Currently it is at a boat building company called solid power boats. My outdrive was completely pulled apart and it flew off the trailer 300 ft away from my truck. I am okay now and recovery and only suffered a grade 3 concussion luckily with no severe injury. This all happened on 4th of July and the road condition were wet.

Have fun to everyone going to the aquapalooza and be safe.

A friend of mine also passed away in a boating accident this past Sunday. Please be safe out there.
 
Nio!! Seems like you have had a rough couple of weeks. I am glad that you are fine, the boat,car is unimportant in the whole scheme of things.
I am sorry for your friends loss, my prayers go out to you and his family. Did he pass here n SoFla? What happened?
 
Oh man...I'm sick to hear of your loss. Like was said you can replace a boat and a truck, it's just good to hear you wasn't hurt to badly. I hope all works out for you. Mike

Yes, it happened at Elliott Key and he was found the next day. I dont know what the actual story is but so far I've heard the boat was doing doughnuts and he fell off and was hit twice by the props. I guess I will find out later as I heard the driver of the boat was arrested. I could be wrong.


Thanks for the well wishes...I will keep you updated on the boat.
 
Beer Can

This is a small island inside Haulover inlet. When I was a kid it was nothing but mangrove and oyster shell beach, and beer cans thousands of them. How and why so many beer cans were on that island I've no idea, but it wass where we kids would go to drink our beer without getting busted.

I didn't check on it when last through the ICW there, but when I was a kid that water was pretty shallow around the island, 4-5 feet.

I think I'll check it on Google earth , I'll post the photos if I can link them here.

I'm going to see if I can sign up for it, but the co ordinator in Pompa no Beach is off on a cruise for 2 weeks in the Abacos, does anyone know who in Miami MM that is on this function?
 
You do not have to sign up, it is open to everyone.You need to sign up so that they could give you a T shirt and a hat(?), but all are welcome. The person you want to speak with in the Miami store is Lina, I woould call her and let her know just,the store is on 79St in Miami.

My God Papo, I am so sorry to hear about this! We actually saw your boat/trailer as we were driving back!!! My wife actually said, "Oh my God honey, that looked identical to our boat!! I hope they're ok" I actually thought about you as I drove by......What happened??? Please let us know so that we may avoid any pitfalls. I am so happy you're ok now. I broke my femur in a stupid softball game, believe it or not, our bodies do heal ok !!!! So sorry for your loss, boat/truck, but especially your friend. A truck and boat can be replaced, a human life, never. My prayers with you and your family as well as the families of your friend.......
