Just purchased them Mercury Vessel View mobile. I have a 2004 280 Sundancer twin 4.3L MPI. The instructions say to plug it in to the multiport. I have a 6 plug multiport under the helm but all the ports are being used. Has anyone installed a Vessel View on a similar Sea Ray? Any suggestions are welcomed

You will need to expand your network to create a spare port.

Should I buy a 4 port and add that in so it frees up room for the vessel view?

I just installed on my 260, it plugged in the top of the engine, it also has that empty plug on it, so you can in a sense splice/hook it in line

Would you be able to send a pic? It would much appreciated.

If you look at the picture it has two connectors, one should go in the harness coming from engine, then the other can continue to whatever else was connected/ the rest of your network

I do not think it can be installed that way. The “other” plug is to add the terminator if not installing it on a spare port of an existing jbox.

I had to buy a 4 port Smartcraft junction box with a 10 pin jumper. I called Mercury Marine and they said that's the proper way to do it. The tech on the phone said to wire tie the 4 port box on top of the six port box so I was able to use a 4" 10 pin connector to link the two boxes together. I just removed the port engine cable from the six port box and plugged it into the new 4 port box. I installed the 4" jumper cable from the space I took the port engine cable off of and hooked it up to the 4 port box. I then installed the Mercury Vessel View in the 4 port box. I had one outlet left open that I put a terminator cap on it that came with the Mercury Smartcraft 4 port box. Turned it on and it surprisingly worked.

Do you like it?
I thought it would give more engine data.

It does not provide all the smartcraft data, but enough to add value. The performance reports are pretty good to see where you are dialed in for speed and fuel economy.

Yes I agree. It’s also easier to see rpm’s and speed on my phone. I’m going to add an iPad holder to see even better.
