I have a 2012 Sea Ray Sundeck 260 with a ECT 350 Mag MPI DTS BR3 Engine. I keep getting an Engine Misfire Alarm on the Smart Craft 1000 Tach which gives off a single beep. Engine runs fine but alarm beep keeps going off. Marine Max has been out 4 times for this problem. They have not given me a clear answer why this continues to happen. Last time I was told they updated the program. This happens every time I come to Florida and run my boat This time it too app. 5 hours of run time before the alarm went off.Tried doing a master reset of SC1000 Tach but, alarm will not clear. Has anyone had this issue? Once again I have Marine Max mobile unit coming out but I doubt they will correct the problem permanently. Any ideas?

I will be interested to hear more on this topic. I had an Engine Misfire fault occur this past weekend for the first time. Like you the engine continued to run fine.

What plug(s?) are misfiring? Following the chain back, it is; plugs, spark wire, coil pack, and ECM and or the interconnection between them that may be at fault. The Merc Software and an OBD scanner should be able to ID what plug is misfiring. Then start eliminating stuff.

Another thought to consider, although unlikely, is that it may be a case of "ghost in the machine". We had an Audi that periodically would set off the check engine alarm. The dealer would plug in their test equipment, reset the fault code, check what was supposed to be wrong, find nothing and send us home. In four years there was never anything wrong except for the alarm trigger!

Thank you Henry for your advice. At this point I think the ghost theory fits my situation. Marine Max has hooked up their scanner numerous times and I do not get a clear answer to what is going on. Just a firm bill. Marine Max will once again be out May 1st. I will be insistent that they start an elimination process to confirm whether we have a ghost situation or not. I will post an update once I learn more. Again as far as I can tell the boat runs fine, just the alarm goes off every couple minutes stating engine misfire.

I will be having my engine misfire fault diagnosed the week of May 1. I will post update when I have the cause.

Guessing Fla salt water. Try removing each plug and tasting the tip. Your looking for salt. Trouble may be exaust reversion or leaking manifolds and/or risers. Water enters the exaust port and fouls the plug.

Thank you BT, Yup, Florida salt water. I will add this to the list to eliminate. Risers and manifolds were replaced recently but could have a leak. Would a fouled plug be obvious? Engine seems to run fine.

The GM engine can have 1 dead cylinder and it would show up as a 500-800 loss of rpm
