Boat Info
2005 270 SLX; Navman 5500; no trailer; Dry stacked.
Engines
6.2 320 HP Bravo III drive.
My drystack called today to let me know that my Sea Ray dealer had taken my boat back to their shop. It was nothing I had arranged so I called the dealer and was told that Mercruiser wanted the boat do do a leak down test. I know what a leak down test is but it's a mystery why Mercruiser would want to test my engine. The engine idles and runs OK and I've never had any suspicions about the compression. The dealer said he didn't know of any recall on the engine but, he didn't seem to know much of anything about the matter. He's supposed to call me back to let me know the backgound.

Any of yooz guyz had your boat "sampled" by Mercruiser with a leak down test?

Mine is a 2005 6.2 MPI BIII.

Maybe I'm missing something, but how did they get your boat without your permission? I sure would have thought they would have contacted you first.

I thought the same thing: How DID they decide to take my boat w/out permission? But, I figure it's all for the good. Mercruiser will be testing my engine and I'm guessing if they find anything out of order, they'll address it. Like a free diagnostic. So, I decided not to be ticked off and not to make a big deal of it.

been in the buisness for 17 years and have never heard of this. maybe asking to do something on a stock boat but not a customers boat without his/her permission...... keep us updated.

WTF!!!

DUDE. . .that is NOT right. Simply not right. The boat was taken without prior consent? What if you wanted to use the boat?

Are you sure that they are not using your boat for a demonstrator?

And what kind of yard do you have that will let someone remove your boat without even verbal permission? As soon as you get your boat back, I would DEFINATELY look for a new yard.

I think they must have sent the boat to the factory for the "leak down test". Been almost a month now. Hope they bring it back by spring.

Dennis,
I'm with Comsnark, WTF?
Have they given you a heads up first of why they thought this was ok to simply take the boat or does the Admiral have the dealer dubbed as Santa's Elf and adding a "wish list item"?
The no notification of "hey the dealer stopped by and took your boat for a leak down test" simply doesn't fly.

I have to agree with comsnark. Isn't this the definition of grand theft "boat". I think your yard also has some explaining to do as to how they would let just anyone come in and hijack your vessel.

Let me know when its back. Next time I'm in your area, I will know where to go for a "joyride", err I mean a sea trial "leak down test".:smt043

In all seriousness, you have to keep us posted as to WTF is going on.

Gotta be a goof. No way anyone takes my boat. Then he posts on here "Oh well, must be good".....

I don't know guys, this could be serious. First his boat disappears and now he disappears. Maybe the "Company" has a new theory on customer relations. You know he did complain and make them fix his boat.

Rut-roh. That was the last post by 270SLX. I agree that we must assume the worst. I will raise a glass to the memories of him and his fine boat!

I'm betting his wife made this happen somehow. Maybe we'll find out today!
