MerCruiser 8.1 HO - first long trip, want to reduce "mechanicals" anxiety

Yeah, at a fair price I probably would have moved forward. He would not budge off the agreed price after learning this about the motors though. Bilges were not clean either, not a mess, but not clean. Oil level on dipsticks was high on both engines, suggesting fuel IMHO since they were both just changed 10 hours ago. Unless his mechanic added too much oil.

Gotcha. Well plenty of others in the sea! Onto the next one!

Per Blackstone Labs 2% fuel is normal, 5% is not. I could smell gas in the exhaust, saw white smoke in the exhaust and the oil level was very high on the dipstick. Seller wouldn't address it so I rejected the boat. He said it was normal.

I'm disappointed because I still don't have a boat.

I was surprised to receive an email from the seller today asking if I'm still interested in the boat. The fuel issue with the starboard engine has been resolved. He's completed every repair the surveyor mentioned. There was no formal report since the survey was not finished, I just shared these with him. He also apologized stating he should have addressed these issues sooner, that the boat had been sitting unused for about 6 months and he was not aware of them. He asked me if I wanted to take the boat for a cruise and then pull oil samples again to send off for analysis.
