is this a trick question?......if Mercruiser states the range should be 4,200 - 4,400 rpms at WOT then the minimum acceptable rpm at WOT is 4,200.....

Sorry I should have stated that I am getting 4140 and 4160 is his acceptable

My manual also states 4200 to 4600. Personally, I wouldn't want to see much less than 4500 wot rpm as the merc literature I've read states to get as close to the max wot rpm as possible when propping. The rpm you are seeing is not acceptable and is not conducive to long engine life.

My manual says 4400-4600. States it right on the engine also.

Interesting mnm, the 2006 8.1 owners manual I have is 4200 to 4600 for the 8.1s and 4400 to 4800 for the 8.1sho......you must have an 8.1ssho

for me it is just long enough to confirm the engines can reach the specified WOT rpm range then I back down to either a good cruing speed or a slow cocktail speed....this also helps clean growth off the hull bottom....I do this every couple months....

Twice year. In mid April when it comes out of storage, and in mid October before it goes into storage. Run it for about a minute each time and watch water temp and oil pressure.

Yup your right, Re-read and it is 4200-4600. My WOT is right at 4600.
