Memorial Weekend 2021 - A Bust in Erie

Don't think we will see any flooding here near Pittsburgh but not looking like we will be putting in yet due to rain and thunderstorms. We had planned on launching tomorrow morning but supposed to be a high of 50 and rain all week. Think we will just wait until next weekend

Well .... that sounds like a plan. Or you could toughen up and boat :)

Marina called today and said they where not comfortable skippering my boat tomorrow at launch due to the expected conditions. I was going to be there anyway, always am (they had me down wrong), and cracked at the caller -- "so I am supposed to be comfortable in those conditions?" She got a laugh. :)

I launched last Tuesday. I watched the weather closely in the preceding days, didn't look good but changed some...it would be a last minute go/no go decision for my spring 120mi run to my slip. I checked the weather first thing in the morning, conditions were boatable, boat was in the water by 9am. As I was getting fueled up/pumped out one of the launch crew said 'boy it's going to get nasty out there this afternoon'.

I headed out at 11am, didn't take my normal route, headed east about 15mi to get more protection from the opposite shore then north, it was a pretty easy run, mostly following seas, lots of sun. Got to my slip at 4:30pm, about 45 minutes later I could hear the wind coming, low black clouds, raining cats & dogs, wind about blew me off the boat.

Woody, please be safe. I know you know your waterway but the stories these guys are posting...just be safe

This entire thread is responsible for me not going to my boat yesterday. The weather yesterday was quite depressing.

We're packing up the kids and heading out this AM. I can't recall the last time I wasn't out for at least 3 nights over Memorial Day! I'm getting soft in my old age.

He is in the most exposed spot in the bay.... just beside him and up into the public docks he could be protected by a cement pier.... he has been there since Thursday morning...there was a lot of warning this NE wind was coming. Not sure why he didn’t move

They’re friends of mine. I haven’t chatted with them since they got there, but I have a guess about why they stayed-put. She is recovering from a bad fall. As big as that boat is, being all-aluminum, she’s lighter than one would expect and presents a lot of windage. I suspect there was a discussion that included the theme if not the words, “it’s easier to fix a boat than a bone...”

Seems that things got a bit interesting on Mackinac Island this afternoon. The residence next door to the yacht club burned. Very unfortunate.
