Hey Y'all
Finally splashed the boat this week end. As I've posted, I bought this project boat about two months ago. She hadn't been washed or polished or moved for three years.

I had a hand full when I got her hauled, as you can see. So I went to Harbor Freight and bought a rotory buffer for $29.00, as I could'nt see the advantage of the ones that were over $100.00. Got a gallon of Mequires Oxidation remover, and a wool cutting pad or two, and went to work.
After many hours or compounding/buffing, I used Meguires Marine Polish with my cheapo waxmaster orbital, followed by Meguires Pure Carnuba Wax. I applied the polish and wax with terrycloth bonnets, and removed by hand with soft terrycloth towel.

All in all I was quite pleased with the results. Now it's on to more britework and finishes. but first a cruise down the ICW.. Here's the after shot

What a transformation! Now, had the previous owner taken that step before hand, they probably would have gotten a few more boat dollars out of you on the sale. :smt001

Great pix and nice job!

So, when is your arm transplant scheduled? (GRIN)

What a difference! Have you gone around and polished all the stainless yet? Mothers brand makes a metal polish that does a good job with tarnished and oxidized metals too. I have used it on tons of auto trim on restored cars.

Keep up the good work, it shows!

Beautiful job, boat looks great. But the wax may not help that much. Here is a copy of an article I found on the internet with some helpful information

"While carnauba waxes may be fine for fresh water, sail boats, their durability is very limited in salt water, especially on power boats. Combining the corrosive effects of salt water and the abrasion caused by the hull cutting through the water limits carnauba wax durability to 60 days or less. Above the water line is not much better. Carnauba waxes start to melt around 150 degrees f. Direct and reflected UV and thermal radiation is literally melting the wax off the finish.

Synthetic sealants on the other hand, have better bonding characteristics than carnauba waxes, better abrasion resistance and melting points in the thousands of degrees. Synthetic sealants will outlast carnauba waxes and will typically produce a brighter shine. Sealants should last 180 days, even in salt water."

Looks great!

If the weather ever dries up, I look forward to seeing you on the water...We usually hang out at Lake Sylvia near the Bahia Mar...

Great Job!!!

Mine was done 2 months ago and still looks good. Get youself a good soft brush and one of those telescoping poles to wash it with. The big labor saver I have found is one of those chamois mops that has all of the strips on it...great for drying the boat down to prevent water spots.

I'm still trying to figure out how to reach over the sides with the brush to clean the hull. It's tough to get all of the salt off after a run. If you find a way to do it let me know.

Thanks All,
<Mares, thanks for the heads up on the sealant. I'll keep an eye on it, but probably won't haul it again til winter
<Barry, might head up that way soon. Our group of clun memebers usually rafts together in a little cove just north of the Sheridan St bridge. It's a nice little cove without a idle speed limit, so alot of guys bring their jetskis, and bow riders for water dkiing and the like.

Thanks to all for your compliments.
Time for work detail on the boat....

I love the pic's, as well as info on the step and products you used to bring back the finish of your boat. Im looking at a 79-80 30 foot sedan, it has been out of the water 4 years, and needs some TLC. Because its late in the season here on lake erie, my plan is to restore the hull, put it in the water then work on the upper as I enjoy the water. Any advice welcome.
