So planning for a great four day weekend at St. Michael's and what happens, dam mother nature steps in and gives us a supposed 2" of rain instead. Had to cancel, wasn't going to walk "dog" in the rain ...

So that said, has anyone been to the Hyatt river marsh marina in Cambridge? Considering going there for the 4th, since Herrington Harbor south over booked the 4th and I got bumped for the 4th only.

We go to the Cambridge Hyatt several times a year. Lots to offer, true resort on the Chesapeake. It has slipped a little over the last 10yrs in quality but we still go back each year.

Two restaurants at the resort another couple are a Uber or dingy ride away, spa, multiple pools, outdoor and indoor bars, golf course, rent jet skis and other toys, putt putt, volleyball and the list goes on…

I was reading that have slipped a bit and that the marina has recently changed hands. Either way it looks to be a great spot to stay at for a few days. Thanks for the update, might try there for the 4th.

Make sure you take great walking shoes. The walk from the dock to the pool and everything else is a nice walk. Also, it gets quite busy around there with tons of people at the pools and such.

Hyatt definitely isn't one of my favorites. I'd opt for Haven Harbor, Herrington Harbour South or anywhere else first. Just my $.02

We also like Herrington Harbor south however we have not had success getting a slip there. Always booked months in advance.

Any tricks to share?

The marina hasn’t changed hands, I don’t believe. It’s still part of the Hyatt. What has changed is that they enlisted Oasis to manage the marina for them. As a slip holder in another Oasis marina, I can say this is a positive thing. Of course, Oasis’ success or failure will be directly related to the support and resources provided by the marina ownership. But Oasis is a good organization with a competent, service-oriented culture.

I booked Herrington Harbor South back in January in the 2nd week or so. I was planning on three nights there. The just the past two weeks they said they over booked the 4th and my res. for Sunday night was no good. I was the 3rd of four boats going. The forth boat with us got Saturday and Sunday pulled.

One if the best marinas on the Chesapeake IMO, just so hard to get in to. We usually stay out on the break water dock by there beach. long walk to the pool from there as well.

Right, but the management did change hands, so to your point, hopefully they will make things better in the marina.

If you want a pool filled with tons of kids, the Hyatt is the place. If you don't need a pool and want a bigger and better selection of restaurants and bars, try the Cambridge Municipal Marina. Quick walk to the downtown area.

Herrington Harbor South is fantastic! Don't miss eating at the restaurant. It is very good! Possibly our favorite place to visit for the Marina alone.

HHS? Never. They are probably our fav spot too. Been told they were full when we tried to book, but never been turned away.

That is exactly what just happened to me. Albeit, it is a great place to go. But they over booked my stay and I got bumped after having the reservation since January. At least I didn't get there and have no slip.

Made reservations at the Hyatt, so I guess I will find out for myself this 4th.

Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode: “you know how to take the reservation, you just don’t know how to hold the reservation. And that’s really the most important part of the reservation; the holding.”

HaHa - yep, sounds like that. Still great place to go for a couple of nights. I just wish there were more restaurants to choose from. Catch 22 is ok, but not a few nights in a row.

We just booked the Hyatt for a couple nights in August. Great place with or without kids that we hit every year. Here's a tip: it's much faster to dinghy across to the resort then walking or waiting for a golf cart shuttle.

Have you tried Herrington North? It's not as resort like as South but just as well kept and also a little quieter with a nice pool and restaurant on site. We also like Shipwright Harbor which is now owned by the Herrington Marinas. It's getting better every time we visit and just across the creek from Herrington North. Couple of restaurant options by dinghy up and down the creek.

Been to all of the above. Herrington South definitely our favorite over Hyatt, although they messed with our reservation last year as well. Seems they overbook regularly because they expect cancellations. Guess the cancellations just don't always come through. Wasn't a fan of the walk at the Hyatt from the piers to the pools, etc nor the "resort Fee" they charge daily for use of the amenities. We also enjoy the many marina's in around the Annapolis area. Have a great Season.

The Hyatt get rid of the resort fee this year. They are charging $150 per night per slip, regardless of size. No resort fee. Rumor has it the charge by the foot will return next year, But I don’t know what that means for the resort fee. For now, it’s a flat 150.

The flat fee was in place last summer too, needless to say the guy with the 30' in our group wasn't happy. They worked out better pricing for us because we had 8 boats ranging from 30'-50' after some of them complained.
