Who's in? I'm thinking Egmont Key. Good access from the Bay and a good boat ramp from Ft DeSoto. And besides, I've never been there.

I'm thinking raft up, set up camp on the beach with an EZ up or two, some horseshoes, some grills, etc. Spend some time tossing a few back and getting to know the locals from the board.

My daughter will be back from college and joining my wife and I.

Any takers?

Maybe, if I hitch a ride on someone's swim platform

May 3rd is bad for me; wife has friends coming into town in orlando so we will probably have to do the whole Disney thing....

as to rafting up...I would never raft up on coast line; seen to many boats smash each other up out there. saw 2 30's try to raft up out their once it lasted all of about 5 minutes before they where trading Gelcoat. idiots go by at max wake and send big rollers towards shore. I'll drop anchor next to you out there, but rafting up is for protected backwater parts of the bay or Lakes.

McDill Air Fest 2008 is going on that weekend, we're planning to anchor off McDill and watch the planes........

that airshow would be awesome from the water. i, though, will be in sarasota for my oldest daughter's first tourney of the summer season.

As it turns out the wifes friends will be leaving on Sat so i might get to play on the water; If Chris from Marine Max gets me running agian.

I'm on my second week of the boat beign dead in the water do to electric problems. Oh well it gives me time to finish the installation of the New Garmin 545s system and the new simrek drive shower. once I'm done I'll post a set by step how to.

so whats the plan and where do we meet.

Went to Egmont last Sat. for our second time and had no problems at all. Last time we encountered the shallows off Fort Desoto but it must have been overcast then because the shallow water was very visible on Sat.

We anchored off the Gulf side and in front of the ruins on the beach again at about 1PM. This must be the least desirable spot because the rest of the gulf side was fairly thick with boats. Took a couple walks around the island on the brick roads looking for turtles with no luck until the last 10' of road before we made it back to the beach when we stumbled upon one right in the path. He was feasting on grass so we spent a few minutes feeding him some. Then he decided he wanted to taste my fingers instead but I didn't care to find out how hard the bite might be and just let him sniff. :)

On the way back we saw a couple Dolphins.

We can't wait for the next trip. Has anybody ever overnighted there on the hook? Where are some of your favorite spots to anchor? Whats the bay side like?

Unfortunately my mother will be here visiting this weekend and I'm not sure if she's still up for boating.

Hi Michael and Renee,

We usually anchor on the gulf side. I think the beach is nicer, but that's just my opinion. You can snorkel down by the ruins. We normally anchor more north of that on the gulf side.
We were there last Sunday. They posted "no pets allowed" signs on the beach to let boaters know that dogs aren't allowed on Egmont. I see this guy bringing his dog to shore as we are walking past him on the beach. I told him that he'll get a big fine if he brings his dog on the beach. He responded "yeah, that's why I'm keeping him in the water." The water was up to the dog's knees. Whatever....

We didn't see any gopher tortoises last weekend either. Sometimes they are all over the places, other times, not so much.

I was in the area around noon, but didn't see anyone flying there CSR colors so I headed over to the north side of passage key. Water was too cold to get in but absolutly beautiful...
