We bought the 2006 44DA a couple years ago and promptly discarded the main stateroom mattress. Purchased a foam mattress from Walmart and shaped it with a sharp knife to fit the cavity. The end result is less than ideal, i.e. sore backs typically. My question: Is a topper a good solution, or a real mattress?

Thanks

Real mattress and a topper
JB, are there any websites for mattress/topper, or is this a local purchase? I'm sure other CSR folks have had the same query.
Thanks.

The admiral still did not like the bed with the addition of the foam topper. I thought it was fine but she complained of back pain. I didn’t want to drop 2k on a mattress just to have her not like it after a season. I felt we couldn’t get a good sense of how good the mattress was without sleeping on it for a few nights. We went to a local mattress store and dropped $600 on a 50% sale for what I think was a sealy foam 10” mattress (3 layers of different foams). Been a few months now and she’s still liking it.

We did a stiff foam mattress and cut it like you did. Then we put a 2” topper on it from Costco. That bed is the best bed I have.... the boat is my favorite nights sleep

Thanks Irie.

Did you buy a queen or king size to then cut to fit?

We went to a real bedding store, tried out different memory foam mattresses, found one we liked, took it to the boat and cut to fit. Still very happy

We had a custom mattress made here locally for our old 330. Wasn’t cheap, but was probably the best money we spent on that boat. Mattress was amazing. And he makes custom sheets to fit.

Same guy is coming out to measure our new 44 Sundancer this Friday. Ours is also a 2006. If you’d like, I can ask what he’d charge to make a second one and how much to ship it back there.

Here’s their website.

ok. thanks. please ask him and let me know.

OK, he came out and measured. A 6” thick mattress with the “premium” stuff is about $1600. Again, not cheap but the last one he did for us was incredible to sleep on. Yes, he said he can ship anywhere and now has the pattern for a 2006 44 Sundancer.

The company is called Matress Makers. Ask for Pablo. Here’s a link...

P.S. Tell him Ed and Lisa on the “Bye Felicia” sent you. I need a deal from him when we upgrade to a 55!?! J/K...
