I was just told by my marina that a bill introduced in Annapolis this morning to change the registration fees. Uder 16' goes to $50.00, 16-32 goes to $ 125.00 and over 32 would be $ 250.00, all per year. There's not a tax they don't like down there, Time to start calling your rep. Bob

Fantastic!

Wow, they are raising boat registration fees instead of putting that 6% sales tax on gas...........brilliant!

John

Maryland won't let me have a raft-up of fifty boat or more without a permit.
Maryland is going to add a 6% sales tax to my boat fuel.
Maryland raised the sales tax on my boat drinks to 9%.
Maryland is raising the boat registration fee sky high.
Maryland can kiss my a**. :smt013

That is why anyone who is making any money is moving out of Maryland! All that will be left are the people sponging off the system. Then what will the state do?

Here is a link to a site that tells you who your elected officials are: http://mdelect.net light em up!!!

WOW!!!! What a bunch of Crooks south of us, Mike.

I have to say I love the Bay. But I dislike this state. I am retired military and my retirement is taxed. Move to PA not taxed (unless that's changed now). O'Malley is trying to raise fuel tax to help pay for, he says, bridges, roads etc. I wish he would just leave at the end of his term. For all of the others on this site. He plans to run for president. Get ready. Entitlements, taxes are right in his wake.
This is a terrible state to live in.

In PA they keep the road fuel tax we pay for the Boat & Fish Commission and they are going broke. I just paid $150 to register a 16ft, 23ft and 27ft for two years....I guess that's a steal compaired to MD. Hope they don't learn from our southern neighbors, Mike.

First, thanks for your service!

Second, I completely agree. I live in NoVA, but love the Bay too much to boat in the Potomac. Thankfully I had the good sense to move to VA when I first got to this area as a young man. I lived in Montgomery County for the first couple of years, but quickly learned that MD wasn't for me!

After growing up on the water, living and working on the water, and being a Maryland resident all my life. It is with a sad heart that I can honestly say if this passes along with the gas tax, the reduction of dependents and the elimination of the mortgage deduction in Md. then we will be looking to move. OMalley will have been able to do what he wants. Drive native Marylanders out of our state.

I have to agree with George. Instead of fixing all the broken entitlement programs where people leetch of the system rather than working. They would rather throw good money after bad and raise taxes and fees which will drive many people and businesses out of the state. What will they do when nobody is left to pay for these programs. They raided the waterway fund and moved the money to the general fund, but yet they state that boat sales have dropped so much that many of the projects can not be paid for. I am sure sales have have dropped, but put the money back that was taken and then tell me where we are. If they would raise one fee and I was not getting hit with everything else on top of that then maybe it would not be so bad. Everything is going up so fast my salary can not keep up at the same pace! I wish I had an open checkbook like the State and Feds think they do!

Yep. Just two weeks ago," The Boy Who Would Be King, OMalley" said he was going to remove another 2.6 million dollars from the already raided and under funded Water Way Fund. It used to be" Tax & Spend." Now it's Tax, Steal & Spend." Just my 2 cents worth.
George

Seems they have updated their registration hikes to not be quite as steep due to public outcry..

So now are we supposed to be happy about it now and all publicly agree to be happy to be paying more? Still sucks IMO.

I agree with all who posted here; wish I could leave and jump across the Potomac. But fortunately, I have a great job that keeps me here....!

From the article Gunn linked to....
"Under the proposed changes, it would cost $25 every two years to register boats under 16 feet in Maryland. It would cost $50 every two years to register boats of 16 to less than 21 feet; $75 every two years to register boats of 21 to less than 32 feet; $100 every two years to register boats of 32 to less than 45 feet; $200 every two years to register boats of 45 to 65 feet; and $300 every two years to register boats of more than 65 feet."

I pay almost $450 per year to register my boat compared to your proposed $200 for two years. But we don't have a state income tax so I guess things probably work out to be even.

MY two cents and I am by far not a very political person but since O'malley has taken office I am getting there. I own a business in MD & after watching O'malley continually take money out of the pockets of marylanders I too am considering moving my corporation probably to DE as well as my family. I will probably keep the boat on the bay as I too was born and raised on this waterway but I will be damned if I am going to give all my money over to O'malleys corrupt organization just so he can look like the MAN THAT SAVED MD in the nations eyes & walk into office as president. Which by the way anybody else in the world besides O'malley will get my vote for president. Between gas taxes, toll increases, and all the other theft on the table I figure I could pay enough to the MD government over the next few years to put my daughter through college. NOT this guy goodbye MD and its a damn shame I have to say that.
