Marine terms you hate…

I don’t think “hate” is the right word, but I giggle every time I hear “on the hard”

On the new to me boat at the dock for the first time Saturday. Guy walks by, small talk, looks at the big Cruiser Yachts sedan in the slip next to mine and says "He is new to boating and doesn't know how to dock. They are planning to move him to a new slip soon". I quickly scanned the starboard hull to see if I missed any bumps/scratches during the hull survey and to make a mental note of what it looks like now.

Great...

And:

Finger Pier

After reading all this mayhem is it still ok me for me to say "I am going to the head"?

Fender…. I came from a world where a fender is a bumper…. Fender doesn’t make any sense. But say bumper out loud around snooty boaters and you don’t have to smile they already think you’re a hillbilly :D

I like this definition
fender
A flexible bumper used in boating to keep boats from banging into docks or each other. Often an old car tire.[2]
Oh, don't get me going on fenders and bumpers!! Hillbilly. ;)

I have a friend that refers to his 34 foot as a yacht.

I consider a yacht something I cant afford and is over 60 feet.
My mom calls my boat a yacht….. can’t really argue with your mom…. So I accept it :) … I do try to get her to say it in her quiet voice…. She can be very loud
