Marine Powder Coating for Anchor

A used looking anchor is pretty cool I think. Haven't seen many stainless up here, seems kinda vain to me. Spray paint is cheap n easy.

I have a 25# Danforth that was looking a little fugly, shot 3 coats of Rustoleum silver on it at the beginning of last season. Brightened it up and at the end of the season it's just showing a little wear at the points of the flukes. I anchor out most times out, but mostly mud/sand bottom. Just going to shoot another coat in the spring.

I was thinking along those lines as well. A wire wheel, some primer, shoot it flat black. You are out of it for less than $50.

Have you looked into getting it chromed? Not sure if it is a viable option for an anchor or not.

Chrome would never last. Your Kodiak is from Southcoast Marine Products. Not sure if they have stainless but you may want to see if a CQR will fit nicely on your pulpit. There are many CQR style anchors on ebay in polished stainless.

Remember when all cars had chrome bumpers? Remember chrome wheels? Some of us are not that old.

I've thought of painting mine with POR paint. Has anyone tried it? I feel like it would hold up pretty well.

POR-15 will not hold up in Sunlight, it's sensitive to UV and needs to be Coated with another Paint Product!!

You are thinking of decorative chrome plating like the stuff overused on autos. The plating I was referring to is hard or industrial chrome plating. Google it and you will see it is used in many industrial applications where corrosion resistance and resistance to wear are important factors.

As far as anchors goes if you want a functional anchor that out holds most others get a Rocna. They do come in stainless steel if having a shiny ornament is important to you but they are pricey. My galvanized one still looks new after a year of use, I'll let you know in 10 years if it is still holding out.

Rocna is a great anchor but consideration must be made for how the anchor fits. Even a Delta stuck up a good 8 or 10 inches on mine. That is when I discovered Kodiak anchors and where to buy them. factory direct even cheaper than a Delta.

I tried the chrome with horrible success. My chrome guy tried 3 times and the best of the 3 sucked. The angles of the anchor drove him crazy.

I had mine powder coated 3 years ago. it still looks like the day it came out of the shop. I believe the cost was $150.00.

A lot of people are having the t tops powder coated. Just one little break in the coating and rust will began and creep to other areas. I would get the stainless it less then a boat dollar
