Good evening! I am replacing the two pieces of marine plywood that hold the batteries (2 pieces 24 x 15 x 1/2 inch). I am not sure what type of plywood to use...it's seems like there are 6 choices of different types of marine plywood. Any ideas? I plan on painting these prior to install with the slate gray that Sea Ray used. Does anyone suggest expoxying these before painting.

    Any help is appreciated!

When I asked Sea Ray about my floor panel over my fuel tank, they said epoxy wasn't used, just marine plywood with Gray BilgeKote. Same with the bulkheads framing the underseat compartment, even the back wall that is the front wall of the bilge. All have held up since 1994, except the panel that sits directly on top of the fuel tank. It is two panels of plywood stapled together and painted with bilgekote. doesn't look like they painted them separately since they are coming apart and makes the floor seem soft as it gives. no paint between the two layers.

    Use King Starboard.

They do have a gray color. Starboard won't rot or decay soou will never repair or repaint the battery box again. The only down side is that Starboard has to be mechanically fastened with screws and it is heavy.

Also, if you want to make it even easier on yourself, you can get King Starboard in any color and thickness you want cut to custom sizes at Boat Outfitters.

King Starboard is just a brand label.

Best thing to use, and replace plywood with is Coosa board. It's superior in strength and much lighter. It will not rot or soak up water at all. Far superior to Starboard (but everything is). It's a bit pricey in quantity and not generally sold by retailers, but any fabricator should be able to get it for you.

For those who want to glue HDPE like King Starboard, check out Chem-Set 6105. Although it’s not perfect, it offers possibilities that we didn’t have before.
