My daughter should be dancing in her national comeptition next summer here so I thought I would trailer the 200 Select down and spend a week. I am looking into a marina where I can keep the boat for the week, therefore I don't have to drag it out everynight. Do you guys know of any that will take a small boat like this and not cost me a fortune?

Brian, try Dolphin Cove marina or Riversedge marina. Because they are up the Ashley, they tend to be cheaper than the harbor area marinas. Downside is the 6 water miles to the harbor.

Brian,
The Courtyard by Marriott on the Ashley River has a dock. We stayed there last summer and the docking was less than the Ashley marina since we were guest there. Their dock is behind the Ashley marina so the water was very calm.

There are lots of things you can do with your boat. A fun day trip would be run the Cooper river up to Santee and go thru the lock into Lake Moultrie and then return to Charleston.
We have made the trip from Santee to Charleston several times with the 215 and have always enjoyed it. Even made our first time with a 180 bowrider.
The ICW will also be fun with your boat.

Sandlapper,

I checked with the Mariott/Courtyard this summer regarding docking at "their" dock. I was told the "Mariott Dock" was sold to Ashley Marina and reservations would be handled by the marina. Was this the case last year during your stay?

Also, Brian, you could look into Ripley Light Marina as there is a Residence Inn and I think a LaQuinta next door. California Dreaming is within walking distance. Many marinas will charge around $2.00-$2.50/ft./night for transient slips but be aware that their dockage rates are based on a 30' min. My favorite marina is Charleston Harbor Marina Resort at Patriots Point as you have a view of the harbor. They also have a very nice hotel and don't mind charging for it.

I'll second that. Great marina and resort, but they do charge:wow:

Thanks guys for all the info. Thats kinda why I asked the question, in my searches, I noticed many marinas start at 30'. I will definetly check out the Ashley and the Ripley Light Marina since they will be close to a hotel.

My daughter should have her National Dance competition next year here, so I figured it would be a great place to trailer the boat. My plans in the next few years is to look for a larger boat which I will probibly keep there in Charleston. So what a better chance to take the little SR to the area and check it out.

Brian:

If you are going to trailer your boat to Charleston just launch and retreive as you want. There are several good motels that are close to the launch ramps. The only ramp I would think twice about is the Wapoo Cut ramp as the current can be very strong there.

When I take my boat to Charleston I usually use my trailer. I have never had a problem with any damage or with things disappearing while the boat sat in the motel parking lot.

Brian,

Is your trailer painted or aluminum/galvanized? If painted, I would think twice about dunking it in saltwater. You may want to try Dolphin Cove or Riversedge as they both have drystack storage. Depending upon you bunk arrangement the marina bull could lift you boat off of the trailer. You would also have access to the wash racks. Perhaps Sadler could comment on this idea as he is a local. FYI farm county landing is next to Riversedge and has a nice ramp with nice docks.

If you are going to do the daily splash which is a pretty good idea as Paul suggested, I think the Comfort Inn (Paul correct me if I'm wrong) at Patriot's Point has a large over flow lot great for trailer parking.

Ripley Light is a great idea. That's where we would stay for a weekend when we first began exploring Charleston as a place to keep a boat. It used to be that the water view rooms weren't extra, you just had to ask for one. If you want to get the family excited, Ripley Light would be a very good place.

I also second Charleston Harbor Marina. The harbor view rooms have balconies with great views, and the marina is very nice. The rooms are pretty small we thought. And, as someone said, not cheap. As I recall, they were around $200-300/day in summer.

If your daughter's event is at the colosseum, RiversEdge marina is only a few miles away, and there are motels nearby. There's also a good ramp next to Riversedge. I'd be glad to help out if you want to explore RiversEdge further. As Charlie said, they could possibly pull your boat out of the water each day and flush it, and I might be able to work a discount for a week long stay.

One more possibility that no one has mentioned is the Isle of Palms Marina. You could rent a condo in Isle of Palms or Wild Dunes, and keep your boat at Isle of Palms marina. That would be a very nice environment.

If you are going to be "in" Charleston, don't forget about the Charleston Maritime Center. They don't have the "full" service of a large marina, but you will already have transportation and can get to anywhere you need on land. They do not have a ramp, but we have plenty of public ramps around here. The staff is great and they are pretty cheap. The 2009 rates are $8.00/ft weekly for a BoatUS member and I don't see a minimum. It is City owned. They also have the cheapest fuel in town. The website is http://www.cmcevents.com. It is located pretty close to downtown so a hotel will be within 1/2 mile.

SeaRide,

Thanks for the update about the Courtyard dock. Last summer we paid The Courtyard for the docking. I think it was $40.00 a night for the 215 and they told me they could handle up to 6 boats of 25 ft. or less.

I guess Ashley marina made them a better deal.

Guys great advice. My trailer is non painted galv, so I assume it would be ok for splashing. The reason I thought about a marina slip was to be able to just head out on the boat anytime rather we head out in the waters or just cook some dogs and burgers on the boat at the marina. But it may be just better to stay at a hotel near a ramp like you guys mentioned and just splash as we want. Would save some $$$$$, which always sounds good in this economy. I guess another advantage to slpashing is we can easily fill it up.

Again, thanks a bunch guys.
