Because of work contraints, I am only able to do weekends with an ocassional long weekend during the summer......My thought was to maybe move the boat to RI/CT for a month or two next summer and do some new cruising grounds......I do not want to be more than two hours from Boston, would like a marina with individual berths (if possible), nice/clean facilities, bar/restaurant on site or close........Any thoughts would be great........Just doing some thinking about next summer...

Try Brewers Greenwich Bay Marina - Great Restaurant/entertainment and clean/modern pool and facilities (brand new) - they also have a full service dept and SeaRay dealer on site - I spent 2yrs there - try the north side of B dock or the south side of C - right off I-95 - close to Newport, Wickford, BI, Mystic, Etc - They had over 200 empty slips last year so renting a slip monthly should not be a problem

My one concern with that marina is the distance to open water..........seems like about 14 miles......

Wetpaint....there are lots of GREAT places to go and stay in Narragansett Bay without ever hitting the open water, and you can make it to open water in 1/2 hour if need be. Newport is a quick run among many other spots that you dont even need to make it to open water.

Ya - thats one of the reasons I left - you can only go to potters cove so many times......I prefer the open water too - Try Belle Vue Yachting Center/Point Judith Marina - Close to the breakwater and easy access to everywhere

Wetpaint....we are at Brewer Sakonnet....it has most of what you are looking for except restaurant/bar on site. Across the river though is the Boathouse and you can always dinghy over there, and you are just a short ride to Bristol where there are some good restaurants and bars right by the water. Both places have public dockage for free.

You go to the islands on occasion. Why not consider one? Maybe MV or ACK. Block Island? That way you can catch the fast ferry and be on vacation. I wonder what their availability would be.

I have been to the Vineyard and Nantucket on average of 3-4 times a summer each over the last 5-7 years........You can never get sick of them, but it is like being married to the same woman for 7 years.....You need a change........I would still be doing both a few times a year, but that will be enough.....I am not a big fan of Nantucket anymore.....The island has changed too much.....

Crusing times from our marina in the bay are roughly -
Newport - 30-40 mins
Block Island - 90-100 mins
Cuttyhunk - 90 mins
Oak Bluffs - 2 hr 15 mins
The nice part about being protected in Narragansett Bay is even if the wind is blowing and it's 6-8' footers out in the open water, you can still have a nice day going somewhere in the bay and still only see 1-2' waves.

Agreed. Too much traffic, too crowded in town, you can't get a reservation for dinner unless you call 4 weeks ahead, my favorite coffee shop "Espresso Cafe" is gone, the same shops selling the same stuff, too many NY and NJ plates (flame suit on), you can't drive anywhere on the beaches anymore because of the stupid birds, and no more butcher on Amelia Drive.

MV is changing too. No manners necessary there.

Agree 100% on Nantucket......Love that burger and beer for $20.00 too....They tried to make it a place for the rich and famous (ie Hamptons), but they are failing....The last quiet good place on MV for me is Vineyard Haven and Menemsha.....If VH passes the liquor law, that could change too......I love bringing a bottle of wine or two to a restaurant..........I am starting to enjoy that quiet cove cruising lifestyle....

Doesn't wingless keep his boat there?
Free book if you get a picture of it and post it here...

I just thought you forgot to include the year. Geez....it's not like you have anything else to do, give us our book.

Oh, did I mention the only good fishing store, Cross Rip Outfitters went out of business so another clone clothing store could go in there. The rule in Nantucket for merchants is one year lease, double digit increase year-year, like it or leave. Got to remember to book my August slip in the boat basin this February.
