Would like to spend the month of September in Chesapeake and home base my boat there for the month. Need a 70 foot slip, 18' beam and 5 draft.

Ideally, I would like something that is close to a small airport, and would also hope to find a captain close by for part time use.

Should I call the marinas near the Solomons and go with that?

Someone suggested Bay Bridge Marina, website looked good.
Also called Mears Point.

Any other recommendations?

Much appreciated......thanks......John

Bay Bridge - haven't been there in a year or two but it's always packed when I am there. Not sure how big of transient slips they have, there are a lot of brokered boats there.

Solomon's harbour - going there over the 4th of July and I could check it out if you have time.

Herrington Harbour - going there after the 4th, I don't know if they can accomodate 70' other than at the entrance to the marina and it can blow pretty hard out there.

I was at the Bay Bridge marina two weekends ago. It looks like there are alot of open slips relative to two years ago. . . I am sure they can work something out for a suitable fee.

That marina is quite nice to hang out in and around. Two sets of decent bathrooms / showers. Nice pool. Decent pool bar.

More importantly, there is an airport right next door. Maybe a 1/2 to 1 mile walk (mostly to get around the fence). I hear it can be tricky getting in and out of that airport due to cross winds (only one runway). I had a friend once who had to go home once after three unsuccessful approaches (he prefers to excercise good judgement over good piloting).

Not too many stores in decent walking distance. . but I am sure you can get Enterprise to deliver a car there.

All the areas you mention have nice marinas, and I suspect there are captains for hire aplenty in this area. There are many marinas in Annapolis as well and it is a great place. BWI Airport would serve Annapolis, Kent Island etc- Solomon's would be better from Reagan National I expect.

The Bay Bridge Marina would be your best bet it has a small airport very close and can hook you up with several Captains in the area

I can't help you but I like to self educate so I have a question, your signature indicates you have a 45 foot boat but your looking for a 70 foot slip. Almost double your boat so just curious why.

That's what he wants you to believe...He just won't change his sig so us little people will keep talking to him. :smt001

Just kidding John, post a pic of why you need a 70' slip so we can be envious again!

Bay Bridge Marina is the best bet. The airport and Marina are literally right next to each other.

If you are staying in Chesapeake, that's a city next to Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

If you are staying on the Chesapeake, then that's a different story.

Morph.....got a real nice 45 on lake erie....need one?
computer......big time violation on my part....going for on the Ches vs in Ches

This Bay Bridge Marina sounded and looked good on the internet, but they didnt want to commit to a month slip now in case they can use it and then that guy would need it for Sep. told me to check in mid august.

left a message with mears point.

solomon harbor sounded great. they got only one 50 and uncle big buck needs two. said they could have 2 30s also in addtion to the 50. clueless here should ask dr frank if i could pigtail the 30s to one 50 and then put that on my smart y where the one 50 will have been used?

in the pic, you can see the two white cords of the smart y cable connected to two 50s on the box. the smart y then connects to the 100 amp cord to the boat.

roller--when you be going to Mackinaw and Charlevoix? all the best on your trip

And, thanks again all for the marina suggestions.

If you want to look in Baltimore... Baltimore Marine Center can handle your boat, and electrical needs. BWI Airport is only 12 miles ~20 mins away. http://www.baltimoremarinecenter.com

It is our home base and really enjoy it there, lots to do,see and eat within walking distance, and lot of great places to go via water.

If you call there, ask for Molly, she will take good care of you, she is GREAT to deal with! As far as the captains go, I have talked to a few, but I would imagine there are a bunch around, Molly might be able to make some recommendations.

Ah, Unklbuck?

Could we pretty please see some more pictures? That boat is absolutely gorgeous, I would love to hear about it! Beautiful!

John traded a very nice 450DA for a big-a$$ Lazzara.

Oh I see how it is

:wow: HOLY SMOKES LOOK AT THAT BOAT!

I'd love a 450DA would you take a barely used 06 240SD as an even trade, would make a great dingy for your new boat.

:smt101 Don't think I've ever really seen an Lazzara's in person or close up.

Scrapped the trip. People from all 9 of the boats that orginally talked about coming along bailed out, and I can't blame them.

I'm ok with it - I'm just glad I did as much cruising as I have when the getting was good.

I'm just planning to take that time and relax around Western Lake Erie, Islands etc.
