Is the MR and Alpha the same? the manual I bought is #6 which shows on the front R MR and Alpha, MR and ALPHA are dated from '84-90 in mercstuff.com as the same out drive??

Almost the same. The upper unit almost exactly the same. The lower unit is different. The manual shows how to identify the differences. Do you have the genuine Mercruiser manual or a third party one?

i have the original Mercruiser manual
Can I use for the tech side of repairs, I guess would be the best way to put it, the seals should all be the same or no? What about torque specs, really just need guide lines on those and what sealant to put where

The manual has separate sections for each drive type. The upper is the same. The lowers are different. I checked a couple torque specs and they're about the same. I checked the shim specs and they are different and very critical. My manual has the two different lower units in section 3C and 3D.

I bought the manual right when I bought a previous boat new, in the 1980s. The identification numbers at the bottom of the page are: 90-12934 585. I don't know what the 90 means but 12934 is the merc manual part number. 585 is the month and year that the manual was printed, in the case of the one I have, May 1985. If covers the I-R, I-MR, and Alpha drives.

I think you can use the manual as you suggest. The exploded parts look about the same, the list of sealants looks the same but the parts count is different. The parts manual that I have shows different parts for the R / MR drives. The catalog's part number is 90-99964 and was revised in Oct 1985.

Keep in mind, however, that I traded my last sterndrive boat to the dealer when I bought Just Ducky in 1999. So it's been over 16 years since I've turned a wrench on a sterndrive.

Yes I have the same manual, all though I own an '88, and the cover says Alpha 1 I figured it was the right one or am I wrong, I've been following 3D for the specs

Right. MR section.
