Folks, I have not changed any of the above items on my 2007 270 Amberjack. It’s been running great and I want to keep it that way. I have researched this awesome site and I think its probably time to inspect/ replace. How do I know if they need to be replaced? It’s a very expensive undertaking as I am not mechanically inclined to tackle this job. Any advice? Thx

If you are in salt water and it’s never been done it’s a ticking bomb by now. Some keep an eye on engine temp as it will start rising before they go. But this could also happen in one trip and salt water get in there and mess it all up. It’s not cheap, but a new engine is much more expensive. In salt water it’s good practice to replace them every 5-7 years.

Buy your OEM replacements from Nuwave Marine, they have the best prices. Then hire a mechanic.

Price Barr Marine as well. After watching Ship Shape TV where they went through the casting process and they sell entire kits down to the nuts and washers I would see what they have for your application as well.

I replaced My 2007 (Long Island salt water) manifolds and risers At the beginning of last season. They had 300 hours on them. The manifolds had cracked externally and were weaping seawater. There was a build up of rust and scale inside that I believe created a hot spot and caused the cracks.

Once the riser was removed, i could look straight down into the manifold and see small rust stains inside the manifold near the center cylinder exhaust ports.

If you can change a tire, you can replace manifolds and risers yourself. They are just heavy. An extra set of hands would be an asset.

If your manifolds are plumbed into the fresh water system (full closed cooling), I would think there is more than likely lots of life left in them. An inspection and coolant service would be a good idea. Risers and elbows more than likely due.

Change them now. Use OEM Mercruiser parts (get the whole kit) that you can either buy online or locally from MarineMate in Lindenhurst.
Easy job for a DIY’er of average mechanical skill.
If you aren’t comfy doing it then see what you’re Marina will want. But beware that they will probably want to provide the parts.
If you don’t have a mechanic to do it I can recommend someone who is fantastic and located in Copiague. PM me if you need a name and number.
