Manifolds and Risers Time

How many hours for a mechanic to replace manifolds and risers - 2013 240 Sundeck with a 5.0 MPI. I have received quotes from 3 hours to 8. Which is it?

Had mine done in April. 3 hours, at $100 an hour. $300 labor. Parts was $1400 using Mercruiser parts not aftermarket, 7.4. Included new plugs (easy replace while mans off). Was some other parts included in price, flappers, rubber connectors, couple other things.

I can’t say for sure but 8 seems a bit much even if it is a corroded mess with difficult access. I’d dump that estimate. 3 hours doesn’t seem unreasonable for someone who has done it 100 times. You can replace an entire long block in 8 hours if you know what you are doing.

I’m sure a mechanic who has done the job will chime in with a reasonable expectation for the job.

Blaster is right, my mechanic has done hundreds and my engine, you can sit next to either side while doing. Easy access.

Did them for the 1st time last Summer, and I'd say it took me about 3 hours or so.

I'd think a 240 Sundeck with a single 5.0 would have good access. 3 hours.

I will say this. I paid a pro the $300 labor do it. Why, it’s easy job, just sit next to engine remove a few bolts?
Cause if just ONE, of them bolts breaks off from rust in the block you are so screwed.

Whether you or the mechanic does the job, A good run to get the cylinder heads hot will help free up rusted bolts.

Good point. Mine was done over winter on blocks, so no way to run at the location i was stored. So for me, cold weather, it was a easy decision. Different situations.
My winterize guy advised I should replace. And i wanted done before launch so i had him do it. Different situations.
