Time for new manifolds.

Question 1

Got a price of 5500.00 to do both engines with Mercruiser parts.

About right? Too high? A good deal?

Question 2

Have heard about ceramic coated manifolds for many years. Do they work? Make a difference? Worth the cost?

Thanks for any thoughts.

1) That seems reasonable and I’ve seen much worse.

2) no experience here, sorry but I like the idea.

When I replaced mine with C-coat the cost was $1500 for 1 motor parts only. Mani's and elbows.

High. Had my 7.4 done with Mercruiser parts. manifolds, risers, spacers, new plugs. $350 labor, $1540 parts, total $1,900. You're about $850 per motor too high.

There is probably a bit more labor involved with his Aft Cabin vs your 250 Sundancer.

Parts price should be same. My labor was 3.5 hours at 100 per. At same rate his mechanic would be adding an extra 8.5 hours per engine for a total 12 hours per engine. That seems excessive. Or his rate is much higher. Either way it seems high to me.
I’m just trying help the guy. I would get a 2nd opinion if I was him.

Maybe A higher labor rate and extra time for gaining access and carrying 8 manifolds and 8 risers up and down those stairs, there might even be a second set of spacers or possibly upgrading to dry joint (if available) manifolds??

Probably a 2-man job too on that boat.

Too many variables to make a direct comparison with your costs.

The Ceramic coating is only on Outside. E coated works fine and minimal signs of rust by the time you have to change them again. Check out nuwave marine for good prices.https://nuwavemarine.com/mercruiser...502-exhaust-manifold-and-riser-kit-807078t08/

The optional extension parts between elbows and manifolds are crazy expensive for what they are, so depending on what size you need, the cost difference could be right there.

That's only 899 per KIT! $5500 seems high then. My 8.1's suck when it comes to manifolds and elbows.

And this is per engine side not including replacing the elbow at $600 each..lol
