You don't want them..... MAN's are a maintenance cost nightmare.....

Ummm, Jeff. Maybe you should look at what he now has.

GFC - of course I know that!! We all know Boltman is a little sensitive to the MAN discussion so I'm just busting his chops a little!! It's all what call having a little fun in the Great Lakes brotherhood!

Dang, and I always thought referring to the 'hood meant you were talking about Detroit.

So, Boltman, if you can fit those V12's into your boat, what are you going to change your description to? I kinda like Thundering Cathedrals of Torque. Maybe something like "Mountains of Mann Mayhem"?

Me .....MAN sensitive , no way , I just feel so bad for all you NON-MAN user and all your Repairs , my MANS man won't do it , he says we can't even stagger those monsters ....... Why won't he give me more HP??? Hahaha TC , don't get me started ...... Hahaha

Boltman

Boltman mabey you dont need V12'S,cant the ones you have be tweeked a bit.

Mechanic won't tweak them because he doesn't want engine issues , I've asked about twin turbos before , you bet he's lurkin reading what I write...... Aren't yeah Steve????

Boltman

Those Mans do sound nice when they are purring away. An old dock neighbor had them on a larger SB-DB.

Well, Robert, if twin turbo's is what you want, just step up to a 58DB and the 900's and you shall have them.....

I have to ask. What would the "expected"performance of the 48 with the v12s? And what is your performance with your current mans? Rpm speed fuel burn? I've done a few trips on a 48 with the qsm 11 at 660 hp each and cruising at 21knts at 1800 burning 45 to 50 gph seems impressive enough. What r u looking for

Jonathon, it really is a hypothetical exercise as the V-12's wouldn't fit lengthwise or width wise in the 48, not to mention the amount of work required to reinforce the hull, upgrade the transmissions, shafts and props to handle the torque....I can tell you on my boat, which is almost 20,000 pounds heavier than a 48, I burn 65 gph at a cruise of 24 knots at 2050 rpm. Roberts 48 is probably 1/2 knot faster than Greg's but burns a bit more fuel doing it. In general higher engine displacement and horsepower all conspire to mean higher fuel burn.

So basically the qsm 11 is the way to go with the 48. For 15 to 20 gph more just to turn a half knot faster doesn't seem practical to me. Now if you were able to stuff the v12 man's into the 48 you could probably run the boat fully loaded at, let's guestimate, 30 knots burning 65 gph? Now that's probably worth it but in the end parts and labor to dump those engine into a 48 would be upwards of what 200k? Now that's alot of coin. Hey if I had it I would do it.

Jonathon

The 15 gph is the difference between a 48 DB with the QSM-11's vs. a 58DB with 900 MAN's. The 48 DB with MAN 700's burns another 2-3 gph for the additional .5 knots cruise.

Ahh makes more sense! Thanks for the clarification.

Nice sound.... would like to hear it with water cooled exhaust:

would also love to say my boat has V-12's !!!

Anecdotally, when I was a kid, I have fond memories of hanging out around the waterfront, listening to the local tour boats warming up their turbo charged Cat diesels ..Can almost smell them!!
