Happened right down the street from me, most likely had nothing to do with launching the PWC except that he was close to the water from what I heard on the news.

When I read "Witnesses said they heard a "pop" before Thompson went into the water." I instantly think it's possibly more sinister than just a man launching a PWC. Situational awareness would make me look for the location or direction of said pop. Maybe I'm just paranoid...

I think the "pop" was him probably falling and striking his head, then he fell in the water and drown.
