Anyone have any experience with 2002 MAN 1050 engines? Are the non CRM MANS something to stay away from? Also, I hear a lot about the maintenance costs, such as your 1,000 hour and 2,000 services. I use to work on a cummins QSC500 doing the general services (Oil changes, filter changes, engine zincs, fuel system filters) are MANS engines more complicated to do work on or are they all fairly similar to cummins in the type of procedures. I understand oil runs a ridiculous amounts with these motors because synthetic is used and they smoke a lot because of their injection system. Lastly, are the inflated maintenance costs for MAN engines due to the lack of MANS mechanics in the RI/NE area and if you have general knowledge and past experience with other motors can these maintenance procedures be done without paying someone big $ and if the correct tools are at hand?
Interested in a 56 DB but heard MANS were a lot of work and maintenance. Type of Motors are the only thing holding us back. Any thoughts?
