Hello!
I purchased the boat in late August. And I’m gathering maintenance items for a spring launch and been trying to learn by reading the forums, owner’s manuals, part lists, etc.

Anodes
The following link was helpful http://www.boatzincs.com/faqs.html. I looked up in the owner’s manual that the boat is equipped with “galvanic isolators” per the AC wiring diagram. I boat mainly in the Upper Chesapeake, MD area. I believe the area is mostly fresh water but could be brackish at times; depending on rain fall for the season.

It appears they recommend either Aluminum or Zinc. So not sure what would be the best fit. I’m leaning towards Zincs since they cost more (guessing they protect better) and I didn’t see any aluminum anodes for the shafts. Is this correct?

Hull: B-12

Tabs (1173764 TRIM TAB, ASSY 16X12 SGL ACT W/3.5"ANGLE): anyone know what the width of the anodes should be?

Shaft 1.5 (1137660 SHAFT, SS 1.5"X 68" AQ19 340DA-99): I see two listings “X-7” and “X-7H” I’m guessing the larger would be ok and better?

Other: I read somewhere that there are other zincs that I need to replace “pencil zinc anode”. The Generator (Westerbeke 4.5 BCGTC), heat exchangers for the engines (maybe?), Air Conditioner (maybe?) and hot water heater (maybe?)…

Bottom Paint
Any idea what type of bottom paint I should use? Or should I leave this to the marine?

Any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Zinc anodes are what you NEED, and I always had luck with West Marine "WM" paints,
we boat and live in So Jersey , replace our anodes and paint the bottom every start of the season..

Owned 7 boats over my life and my current boat is a
2005
320 Sundancer, love the boat and is a perfect boat for the 3 of us, my wife, sometimes with us 20yo daughter .

Use zinc. Sea Ray does not recommend using zincs on the shafts. I do not and have never had a problem. Sea Ray does use zincs on the trim tabs. You need four zincs. One on the transom, one each for the trim tabs, and one for the generator. I think the zinc on the 4.5BCTCG has a 9/16" head. Or you can just reuse the plug and screw a new zinc into it and replace it into the heat exchanger. Figure on two of those zincs a year.

Best regards,
Frank

Thank you for the replies. The boat does have shaft zincs installed. I’m confused what to do… I did some searches in our forums with mixed responses related to the topic (use or not use shaft zincs). It seems if the shaft zincs are installed correctly; then there hasn’t been any issue.

However, what happens if the shaft zincs do not wear equally, could this create vibration and then cause them to loosen up and slip or worse fly apart?

Has Sea Ray provided any reasons why they don’t recommend them?
