I'll be installing a Magma Pedestal mount on the swim platform of an 06 340. I plan to drill the 6 holes larger than required, fill with West System Six10, redrill and fill with 4200, stainless hardware, fender washers, and locking nuts to secure.

2 items of concern:
1) Has anyone had any issues with water getting 'trapped' in the floor plate? There is no drain holes, so I'm concerned about sealing the perimeter of it as the top is open to the elements. Should I just focus on the mounting holes for sealing, and disregard sealing around the diameter of the plate, as water will simply pool inside?

2) Has anyone come up with any good ideas for a cover/cap for the mounting plate? I'd like to keep the kids feet well clear of the mount.

Many thanks,

JMD

i just used silicone in the bolt holes. That was three years ago and no problems to date. I would not seal the perimeter of the mount. let the water drain out so it will not pool inside the mount. I don't see a need for a cap for the mount unless it is just for aesthetics. The real hazard with the mount is a tripping hazard if it is placed in a walking path and adding a cap to the mount will not eliminate the tripping hazard....plus a cap will tend to slow or prevent water from evaporating from inside the cap from rain or wash water....

Good luck....

I did the same thing as you, and also left the base unsealed to the platform. I blast a hose into the hole while cleaning the boat during the summer or algae tends to grow in the center. We're in uncovered slips

@CliffA , side quesiton -- do you remember if the plans to build that table were in a thread somewhere on CSR? I remember seeing it somewhere and really want to build one this year

I installed the same mount. The diamond non-skid was enough to let it drain. Although I did take a Drexel and a small sanding drum and made a few ‘reliefs” along the edge of the mount so water could drain more freely. I don’t have problem with build up.

I have made some modifications to the table since this pic was made...it is much more stable and stronger now....send me a 'conversation' request and we can talk about how i made it off forum...it really comes in handy as a prep table for grilling or holding my beer while I'm grilling....;).....

Not sure if anyone is paying attention to this thread anymore but I didn't want to start another as there appear to be several already on the same topic. A common theme seems to be drilling over sized holes and filling with either 5200, 4200, or marine tex. What is the point of that? I just installed one on my 260da and just through bolted it.

The platform is cored with balsa wood. You need to drill oversize and fill with epoxy then redrill correct size or you run the risk of water intruding into the core and damaging the platform.

Like Josh mentioned, when you hear people talking about "over drilling", we're talking about using epoxy to fill the hole. Then redrill your pilot hole or through hole. You would still use some sealant (NOT 5200), but if (when) the sealant fails, the water will not get into any coring.

Simply drilling your hole and then using sealant is fine, though. It's not 'best practice', but it certainly is acceptable.

Ah, thanks! This is VERY good to know. Actually I have some davit bolts back there I'd better do the same with. Thanks again. Appreciated.
