I am purchasing a Magma Party Kettle Grill and I am debateing on how to mount it on my boat. I have a 200 sundeck, the grill will be removed and stowed when not in use.

The under the ladder hatch (starboard side) isn't an option because I do not want to block the way for the kids to get back on the boat.

I am a bit worried about having the grill swivel over the gas fill on the port side.

What works well for people and what doesn't? Flush mount? surface mount? Rod holder?

Thank you
Chris

I like the rod holder, then you can fish when you aren't cooking.

If already have rod holders, then that would make it easier.

Here's a few more ideas: Note the "flush", "side" and "pedestal" mounts: http://www.attwoodmarine.com/store/category/fishing/mounting-bases

I've used the flush mounts on a few boats (in white) - I like the "flush" part.

Drilling into the glass is easy. Try using the search forum - you should find plenty of advice already out there. There are a bunch of threads on the Magma mounts, too.

That seasucker thing is neat - pricey, but a neat idea!

Rod holders are great...
Or, use the removable one... I use one that doubles as a rod holder, a fillet station and a Magma grill holder off the stern as seen in the photo:

They are quality mounts, I've got a couple of them I use for fenders. The one pictured is for the rectangular type of grill. It appears to depend on the weight of the grill resting on a surface. Which doesn't look like it'd work for a kettle type grill since the gas pipe comes out the bottom. I wouldn't be willing to depend upon the suction cups to hold the full weight of a flaming hot grill.

I would have to agree with you, although I have seen these suction cups in action (holding a external speaker to a hull). I would hate to see any kind of failure with a burning grill falling into the boat. Just too risky for me.

Do you have a grab rail somewhere near where you could mount the grill?

If so, Magma makes a few different mounts that clamps over the rail. I use that one on my boat and it seems to work well.

Here's an issue not mentioned that really bothers me with the Magma mounts. No matter which mount you choose, flush, surface, side, rod holder, rail NONE of them share the same bar from the grill to the mount. So if you want to put 2 or more mounts on your boat (one location for cooking and one for storage) all mounts need to be the same or you will have to switch over the bar on the grill each time. It's ridiculous and short sighted engineering. They had a chance to make this reall slick and blew it.

Other than that, all the mounts work well, don't ask how I know. :smt021 Just need to decide how you want to attach to your boat and where.

Here is what I did this weekend. The table "leg" is from West Marine, mounted under the ladder hatch. Table top was made by a steel shop, 1'x2' stainless with bolt welded to underside for grill mount. After use, all can be broken down for easy storage in about 2 minutes, and the kids can go back in the water.
