OK so maybe some of you electronic geeks can help me out.
I have an HDS-7 first Gen. Last year I installed fuel flow sensors on both gas MerCruiser. Then back in August, I noticed the port side would not register at idle or low speed. However, on step it would read.
I have carbs, so the sensors at idle will show the carb float opening and closing. Expected.
So I replaced the port sensor. Then my issues started. The sensor would show me burning 120gph and when I got to my destination my stbd engine would show 10 gallons used while the port side show 225 gallons used. Interesting that engine only has a 70 gal tank.
So I called Lowrance, they asked me when the last time I updated the unit? I didn't know there were updates, so I downloaded the update and uploaded it to my unit. The info on this update showed "fixes issues with the EP60 fuel flow sensors.
The upload didn't work. Lowrance told me to do a "soft reset" of the unit. Done, no fix. Unplug the sensor from the network-no fix. Lowrance say get another sensor. Install no fix, call Lowrance-replace sensor. Replaced sensor, soft reset again and wow it works!!!!!
Then the port side showed the same issue. It appears the little basta#d of a gremlin migrated to the stbd side. Call Lowrance-replace sensor. I have one at WM waiting.
Anyone else experience this? These sensors at $65 a pop have this type of failure rate? (Lucky me I haven't had to pay for any, but they are a pain in the butt to install.) I am about to yank the unit out and tell Lowrance to fix it.:smt013
