Hi Guys
I have noticed reciently that my depth sounder - Lowrance 3500 is not giving constant or correct readings. It takes a long time to find a reading which is sometimes correct and then it seems to loose it and just flash the last reading it found. Sometimes it just flashes 0.0 from switch on. It has not done this before so obviously something is wrong.
This happens in salt and fresh water, clean or muddy water and even when I can see the rocky bottom a few feet below. Speed makes no difference as it does this at anchorage or while skiing.
The alternator fried a few weeks ago and I have replaced it so the voltage is now constant 13.5 to 14V although the problem started before the alternator issue, and I thought the low voltage might have been a factor but not. The transducer is clean with no marks and is mounted in the same transom position it has always been.
Do you think it is the depth sounder its self? If so I can replace it with another 192khz transducer that I can by on line for $70.00. Or is it the guage / built in computer at the dash that is faulty in which case an entirley new unit needs to be purchased. If I must by a new unit I might buy a fish finder instead but what do I do about the hole? I dont have an unlimited budget to try every option but I need it fixed.
Your experienced opinions appreciated!
Cheers
