I Just put a down payment on a boat and am hoping it goes thru...i'm very very new to boating so am a little nervous about modding...anyway heres my question...

This boat 1999 Searay 270DA sundancer comes with the lowrance 3500 depthfinder(Just digital depth) and i'd like to add a fishfinder...can i take this out and use the transducer that come with this with a fishfinder instead of drilling through the boat to mount another one? or is there no good fishfinder that would be compatable with this transducer

894170 is the Sea Ray part number. You can try contacting them to see if they will give you the manuf/specs for it. Or try contacting Lowrance.

Short answer - probably not unless you can find one that uses 192 khz.

The key component here is the frequency of the transducer. The Lowrance 3500 uses a 192 khz transducer. I think you'll find that most modern sounders are going to require 200 khz or 50 khz (for deep water) or both. In fact, even the current Lowrance units are 200/50 khz.

Do what I did - install an IN-HULL transducer such as this one: Airmar P79 No drilling and it works great. Plus, a side benefit of the the different frequency issue is that they can coexist. You can keep using your 3500 as well as a newer unit without interference.

For those of you who have installed an in-hull transducer such as the P79, how difficult was it to get the wiring to the dash and how did you mount the fishfinder/gps? Seems there isn't really a good spot on the 99 Sundancer 270DASE...

I too am looking to add a fishfinder/chartplotter to mine.
