Lower units taken off last fall and put on this week. Prior to removal was able to trim both lower units up and down but kept receiving and error message on Smartcraft: Port Fault 131, Trim Ckt Lo.
Boat has not been in water yet but we are told that neither lower unit responds to the switches now, that it is a problem unrelated to removing the outdrives and reinstalling. The mechanic says it is a sensor problem, which means removing the lower units again, replacing the sensors, fixing the wiring going through the transom, replacing the bellows - very costly. Apparently, this is all related to the error message that I only was receiving on the port engine
I can trim up the lower units with the trailer switch now. I can lower the units with the trim switches. I can not get any response on either switch to trim up.
I feel there is too high a correlation between taking the units off and putting them back on and the trim not working.
How we could have lost trim on both units is beyond me.
Anyone with any thoughts on this? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

So it is the trim switches (not the trim tabs), that you are having problems with. Right? If the trailer switch works properly I'll assume you have power & fluid at/in the pump. I have no experience with the Smartcraft error messages, but, out of interest and to help in your search for answers, I will bump this thread by asking the basic question......... Does the pump run when you depress the trim up switch? Could be a big cost difference depending on if the problem is inside the boat or outside.

You need to know how and where the drives were taken off? If they removed the pins that are the hinge point for the legs (trimming up and down), they will have disturbed the trim limit switches..... This switch controls where the trim up switch on your controls cuts out and the trailer switch takes over. There is a sender unit on one side for your gauge and a trim limit switch on the other side of the steering bracket. Need to read the manual on setting these up as there is measurements to take. Hope this helps.
