So I am going to replace the lower shift cables on both my engines. I replaced the bellows last year and unfortunately they were very VERY cheap ones and split wide open on me in less than a years time and now both cables bind slightly. Anyway, I'm doing the whole shebang over again. Is it worth going to the Teleflex Xtreme cables or will the standard ones be fine? What is the difference in them?

It sucks having to do the job all over again but I guess it was a learning experience. When it comes to parts that need to keep water out, if it doesn't say Mercruiser/Quicksilver on it, then it's not going on my boat.

I think the regular cable is fine - can't go wrong with Mercruiser / OEM. You don't say what brand bellows you had a problem with. I replaced all the bellows, trim sender/limit switches and shift cable on mine beginning of last year - decided to go with Sierra had no problems.

They were some sold off a private label. He won't tell me who makes them or even where they are made, I suspect China. They felt quite a bit lighter than the ones that came off but I didn't think much of it. The cable, and all bellows I replaced on my 240WE 15 years ago and they still look perfect. Those were all OEM Merc parts.
