I'm starting to plan our summer vacation and am looking for some new ideas for stopovers on the Lower Chesapeake. We're into laid back marinas with a pool and restaurant nearby and like to go exploring by dinghy in the evening. Here are some places that we've visited and liked to give you an idea of what we're looking for.

Dozier's Regatta - Deltaville
Tides Inn
York River Yacht Haven
Oyster Farm - Cape Charles

We're coming from the Northern Bay so we do the usual St. Michaels, Herrington, Oxford, Solomons trips throughout the summer.

I'm not opposed to going up the Potomac but not sure if I want to spend a week there.

The Salt Ponds is somewhere I'd like to visit but the recent reviews seem to be going downhill.

Any suggestions on marinas/towns between the Potomac and Norfolk area?

We're boat out of Norveiw Marina next door to Dozier's in Deltaville. Give us a shout when you head down this way and if we can will catch ya.

The 4 you hit are pretty good so I want go further there but can always advise on them. Bay conditions typically will lead you either down the East side or West side and hopefully the opposite on your way Northward so I'd keep that in mind.

The East side is Onancock which is +-40 miles north of Cape Charled. They have no pool but great little town dock marina right there at the town. Good food, nice walking & dingy exploring areas.

Cape Charles next for pool, golf as two great course right there. We're headed there with eight other boats for the long July 4th weekend so if interested get your slip reservations & golf cart rental asap as they fill up. Fun weekend with great little town parade amongst other things and bring your sticks if ya hit em! Any other time without golf cart a lot of walking as down town is the other end of town.

if you want then head down to Yorktown dock on the York river for lunch, beach, play for the day then head across the river to York River Yacht Haven. Nice pool, restaurant on site, nothing really from there within walking distance so one night probably all ya need along with good fuel stop.

Get up in the morning, have breakfast then head to Deltaville's Dozier's or Norview Marina, fixed docks, floating docks your pick, nice pool but not Herrington Harbor standards. Very large for small town West Marine. Not much in walking distance, but you can tender across the creek to only waterfront Resturant in Deltaville which is always pretty good food with music on weekends. Another good fuel dock at Norview depending on your needs.

Next potential stop I'd suggest the Urbanna Town dock 20 miles +- up the Rappahanock river for lunch and walk around as much smaller than Solomons or St Micheals but similar feel. No pool so lunch, walk around then head backdown the river about five miles on your port side and turn up into Carter Creek to The Tides in for a couple of days of pool, R&R, par three golf, nice little walk into town and again if ya got em and what to hit em there as well.

Run back down the Rappahanock river and up the Bay headed home. Hope that helps as you're probably all set from there and again I'd let the Bay forecast The clockwise or counterclockwise path down the bay.

Pm me if had like more,

AJ
