just a heads up for anyone considering boating on Lake Wylie anytime soon...be aware that the water level is currently around 2 ft low...apparently the 'gate keepers' of the dam system planned to get a lot of rain from hurricane Irene and dropped the water level in preparation, but the rains did not come....we used the the ramp at Copperhead Landing last W/E and almost dropped the trailer tires off the end of the ramp...a guy loading his boat beside me did drop his trailer tires off the ramp...we had a fairly difficult time loading the boat because i could not back the trailer in deep enough to float on...i was told the public ramps at Buster Boyd bridge are longer and better to use during low water....(thanks Jason)

We launched at Copperhead both this past Saturday and Sunday, and can attest to the low water level. We ended up using the "first" group of ramps, as they seem to have less hazards. Didn't have too much of a problem at all. However, when coming in Saturday evening, about 7:30, pulled up to the courtesy dock to get out and get the truck, and the wife circled back out in the waiting area. Both ramps were blocked. One side, the owner (this was a mother and son) evidently ran the trailer off the side of the ramp, and the trailer was flipped completely over. Yes, I said completely over, as in trailer fenders on the bottom. The second ramp was blocked by someone good Samaritans trying to help. They had attached a line to the aforementioned trailer axle, ran it across the trailer, and tied it off to their bow eye of their small cuddy cabin, and were running full reverse trying to flip the trailer back. There were 3 people in the water trying to lift it at the same time. It was something to behold. I asked if I could help, maybe call for assistance, but they insisted they were fine. Dangerous: I also had to warn them as one of the guys in the water was coming within 3' of the prop (he was leaning on the swim platform) of a sterndrive running in reverse - I don't know what they were thinking. One slip , and he would have been into the prop.

I can't for the life of me figure out how they flipped the trailer while backing down to retrieve their boat. True story.

Thanks,
John
