Hey folks,
have an 01 280 with a fridge that cycles on about every 20 minutes. Keeps everything ice cold and works great EXCEPT. Its very loud when running. Can that be fixed. or is a new fridge in order. Keeps us awake unless we turn it off.
Any advice?

Ours is noisy as well. One thing, on ours, is the simulated wood door skin kind of vibrates. I intend to find something to "tighten" it up. Another thing we used to do was to cut it off at night to conserve battery. Everything will stay just as cold. If it is too annoying, a new one might be in order.

+1 on the rattly front faux wood panel. I also turn them down at night since its cooler outside anyway.

Replace the fans, pretty easy and will help quiet it down!

Had the same noisy problem with ours. Tried everything to fix it. Switched it off at night a few times, difficult on warm evenings. Previous owner had been a little too aggressive defrosting with hair drier and melted a small section of the freezer that was patched. Replaced after a season with a Nova Kool, it's very quiet and a little larger on the inside.

When it cycles how long does it atay on for? Mine comes on for about 3-5 minutes then goes off for about yhe same so is running about 50% of tbe time which i am sure is wrong and draws too much power.

IF you don't need the DC side, I'd dump it or part it out and replace it with a dorm fridge. They are pretty much bullet proof. My daughter graduated college in 2005 and that same fridge keeps beer cold in the garage.

My 2cents.

Your two cents make a lot of sense!

My Norcold rumbled - really loud and annoying esp at night when sleeping. When it died a year or so ago and I replaced the guts with new ones it was silenced nicely.

I talked to Thetford Co. yesterday about the same problem. Mine runs for 5 minutes then shuts off for 5 minutes and so on and so on... They told me the compressor was going. They gave me the number of the local repair man. $100/hr plus travel time just to look at it. The new cooling system is $900. I am buying a new on for $1,200. It's a 20 y/o fridge.

If my norcold fridge ever gives up I'm going to replace it with an Isotherm. I put one in my last boat and it is much quieter than the Norcold one that came with my present boat. Also seemed to cycle on less as well. They do sell the cooling unit separately as well if one wanted to retrofit it to an existing box.
