Loud exhaust Westerbeke 8KW diesel generator

Replaced my muffler with a 2 stage muffler Centek makes custom for sea rays. I have a 01 400 DB With a WESTEBEKE 8.0 and a sound shield. All I hear now is a very low pleasant hum and the sound of gushing water, barely any exhaust noise. Straight swap out, fairly inexpensive in boat dollars.

What model number muffler did you purchase?

Scubaanderson, I couldn't respond to your PM as your box is full. I can send the dimensions of the dual stage by email if you like. Here is the response I received from CENTEK when I emailed them...

"Darren,
I would recommend removing the existing Vernalift muffler part number 1500054 and replace it with the Vernalift part number 1601345. This muffler has a larger body and is a dual stage design which will make the exhaust quieter than the existing. The overall dimensions of the muffler are shown on the drawing attached to this email...You are not going to find that part number on the web site; it is something we built for Sea Ray."

Hi there. Joe here from Port Washington Long Island. I have the exact same boat and genny and my Centek Muffler just started taking water and will be replaced as soon as I can find one. I would love to replace it with the custom one you mention but the season is too short to wait so I need to settle for a stock unit for now. You mention a sound shield for your genny where did you get it? It would be great to quiet it down! Thanks for any info,.

have you considered repairing it? I dont know what exactly you have for damage to the muffler, but if its a crack, a fiberglass guy can repair at minimal costs....

Didn't realize that was an option considering its age. Definitely will look it over when I take the old one out and if worth doing will save it for a spare. Thanks for the tip.
